In Season 11, numerous players are waiting for the mysterious new weapon Exotic Ruinous Effigy). But how and when will we actually get this exotic gun? And what can the new Trace Rifle do?
This is the new exotic weapon: In the context of the new Season 11, the Season of Arrival, the exotic arsenal of Destiny 2 will gradually be expanded by a total of 3 new guns. Many Guardians are particularly excited about a new exotic – the new Trace Rifle Ruinous Effigy.
For a long time, nothing was known about this new Exotic, but now we know not only what the weapon can do – there are also compelling indications of how and when we will get our hands on the new gun.
What we know so far about Ruinous Effigy
This is what the new exotic Trace Rifle can do: This exotic Trace Rifle is equipped in the energy slot and deals Void damage.
Through the exotic perk Transmutation, kills from Ruinous Effigy transform victims into Void Transmutation Orbs.
Your second perk Evolution causes the generated Transmutation Orbs to be picked up by you or your allies and used as weapons.

When is the new Exotic coming to the game? While there is no official date, it is essentially almost certain that the weapon or its exotic quest will come into the game on July 7 – So with the start of Triumph Moments 2020.
Entries in the Destiny 2 data show that the associated ornament for the weapon will be available in the in-game shop Eververse on July 07. Corresponding ornaments have previously always gone live on the same day when the new exotic weapon or quest became available in the game (for example, with the Thunderlord).
How do we get Ruinous Effigy? According to the data, the new Exotic will be available through a new quest called “Missive”.
This consists of 5 steps and guides Guardians from the new Prism Converter through the soon vanishing locations Io, Mars, Mercury and Titan back to the Tower, where in the end there will be a new weapon as a reward.
This is how the quest “Missive” goes:
- Step 1 – Missive: Here you should visit the Prism Converter in the Tower’s annex with the Drifter, where the quest begins for you.
- Step 2 – Gift: First, complete the mission “Interference” on Io, which drives the story around the events of Season 11 week after week.
- Step 3 – Pendulum: Now collect Calibrated Light fragments on Io, Mars, and Mercury. Also, defeat Savathûn’s puppets on Io and Titan. Because Eris believes that the pyramids offer us a gift in a form we will understand: weapons. But the branch (the weapon in an early form) simmers with unstable darkness, and we need to change that.
- Step 4 – Nourishment: Now you need to defeat targets with Void damage, achieve precision multikills, and complete Gambit or Reckoning matches. The branch (the weapon is likely carved from a branch of the Tree of Silver Wings on Io) is tempered and bound, but at its core still has an insatiable Void. And we have to find a force here that it can feed on.
- Step 5 – Shaping: In the final step, all that remains is to decrypt the gift, an Engram, at the Umbral Decoder. The branch is now satiated and bound into an Engram formed from Eris’s conjuration formulas. And now the gift is finally ready to assume its true form.
This is what we also know about the new weapon Exotic: Ruinous Effigy will apparently also be needed for other tasks. For example, with the start of Season 11, mysterious eyes of Savathûn have appeared at many locations in Destiny 2. And the new exotic Trace Rifle will apparently be the only weapon that can destroy these previously immune eyes.
Destroying the eyes will be needed to obtain a secret triumph for the new seasonal seal when all 50 of them are destroyed. On the other hand, it will also help progress the catalyst for the new exotic Trace Rifle.
