The asymmetrical tactical shooter Deathgarden is currently in closed beta. We took a look and reveal why Deathgarden is already exciting a few months before its release date.
Deathgarden is in closed beta on Steam from June 19, 2018, to June 26, 2018. We took the time to play a few rounds of the asymmetrical shooter and reveal who can look forward to the game and who might want to steer clear of it.
What is Deathgarden? Another asymmetrical game from Behaviour Interactive (Dead by Daylight). Five “Runners” compete against a Hunter. The Hunter is equipped with powerful weapons and can quickly shoot down the Runners to have them executed. If he kills at least three of the Runners, he wins the game.
The Runners, on the other hand, must capture 2 out of 3 control points, but while doing so, they expose themselves to the Hunter. To defend themselves, they must first collect upgrades to acquire various abilities, such as stunning or healing. Only then do they stand a chance against the overpowering Hunter and can slow him down or confuse him.
Who can participate in the beta? The developers have sent access keys to many who signed up for the beta. All players who were already in the alpha can also participate again and can invite a friend – they received an additional key.
Why Deathgarden Rocks Already
Forced team play at its finest: Unlike Dead by Daylight, a Runner is completely helpless when alone. Perhaps he can heal himself once or twice or fire a few stuns at the Hunter, but then the lights go out. Only as a team do the Runners complement each other. While one stuns the Hunter, another slows him down, and yet another restricts his vision, enabling the rescue of a teammate. A shotgun blast can take you down at any moment – and that brings us to the next point.
Adrenaline every second: The Runners have no second of peace in Deathgarden, nor does the Hunter. Either you’re busy frantically collecting resources to upgrade your own abilities or you’re trying to help your teammates out of trouble. If that’s no longer necessary and the control points are being captured, it doesn’t get boring either. Because the Hunter sees across the entire map when a Runner captures a control point. That generally means he’s on his way directly to those players. Only when capturing multiple control points simultaneously is there a chance for success.
What is still missing in the beta? So far, Deathgarden is “pure gameplay” – there are only the matches. There is no progression system or customization options, such as to modify the Hunter or the Runners visually. That will surely be different at release.
Conclusion: Deathgarden is hectic, tactical, and extremely fun. If the developers continue on this path, then a great future awaits the asymmetrical hunt. Real enjoyment for the Runners can only come when you go into battle as a full group. “Randoms” can quickly mean your own defeat.
Deathgarden: How long is the beta still running and when is the release?
The closed beta will run until June 26. A release is scheduled for August 2018.
