A third-party provider recently offered a black custom model of the PlayStation 5 in retro style for order. However, the campaign has now been canceled. The reason for this is apparently a “threat to the team”.
What’s the story with the black PS5? The PS5 has only officially been available in white so far. However, many wish for Sony’s new console in classic black or have missed out on PS5 orders. And the provider SUP3R5 apparently wanted to fill exactly this gap.
This third-party provider has been offering a limited quantity of a black custom version of the PS5 (digital and disc) as well as a black DualSense controller for sale for several days.
The retailer and the campaign itself were hotly debated. Many expressed concerns about the legitimacy of the shop, and some suspected nasty scalpers behind it and cautioned caution. Nevertheless, the demand was (at least according to the retailer) considerable.
But now there has been a new development surrounding the shop, which is likely to further fuel speculation.
“Credible threat to safety”
This is what SUP3R5 announced: In a now-deleted tweet, the provider announced that all orders have been canceled. According to SUP3R5, customers will receive their money back in full.
Here’s the reason: The reason for the cancellations is apparently “credible threats to their safety” [that of the team], according to SUP3R5. They have recently received these and take them very seriously. Therefore, they will not continue. However, SUP3R5 did not go into further detail.
The provider also stated that they would try again when they consider it safe.
What does this mean in concrete terms? What exactly has happened behind the scenes at SUP3R5 is not really traceable. However, this entire cancellation action, as well as the deletion of the Twitter account, casts the already criticized and controversial retailer in a bad light and feeds the mills of the critics.
Reports suggest that at least some customers have already received their money back. Others are still waiting.
