Deadpool & Wolverine was a gigantic success for Disney and the MCU. For many fans, it was finally a good Marvel movie again. The third installment of the Deadpool series is not just another superhero film, but a love letter to decades of Marvel movies.
In the film, there are, of course, countless cameo appearances, typical of comics. One of them is part of several jokes. However, the best joke with the character can only be found in the German version, and it has to do with the dubbing.
Deadpool and Art Attack
What kind of joke is that? After Deadpool and Wolverine land in a kind of intermediate dimension, they encounter various versions of well-known heroes and villains. One of them is played by Chris Evans. But it is not Captain America; it is Johnny Storm, also known as Human Torch from The Fantastic Four.
This, of course, disappoints Deadpool. In the German version of the scene, Deadpool explains that he should have recognized it immediately. You can see this in a TikTok video from comiccosmos. Deadpool says: I should have recognized it by the voice.
Johnny Storm is voiced in German by Benedikt Weber. In most movies, Chris Evans is voiced by Dennis Schmidt-Foß. Therefore, he has a different voice in Deadpool than the one you know from the MCU, by which Deadpool should realize that it cannot be Captain America.
This moment does not exist in English at all. In the original, Deadpool says: We thought so
, after Wolverine says: We don’t know him.
Where else might you know Benedikt Weber from? Most of you will probably know Benedikt Weber as the host of the children’s show Art Attack. Otherwise, he also voices Stan Marsh in the German version of South Park or Karnimani in Pokémon.
