RaiderZ is a actually dead action MMORPG from Asia. But thanks to a dedicated new studio and still loyal fans, the work on a reboot seems to be going better than expected.
What is RaiderZ? This game was an MMORPG with an action combat system like TERA. Unfortunately, it had no great luck and was shut down in 2015 by the then publisher Gameforge.
The reasons included the vague controls and the close tie to a cash shop with sometimes questionable offers. For instance, you had to pay real money for reskills.
Reboot is progressing well
After RaiderZ came to an end, in 2017 the publisher Masangsoft announced the reboot of the game. They did not specify an exact timeframe. However, the new owners agreed that they could not simply put RaiderZ back online. They would have to properly work on the game and revive it with a lot of love and dedication.
In this regard, they aim to adjust the following aspects:
- An improved story
- Repeatable endgame content
- No more class-based progression, instead more freedom in skill allocation
- More variety in endgame items
- Better hit detection in combat
How far along are they? The developers’ Facebook page has been diligently documenting every progress and announcement for a year. There is now also a video that shows the latest progress, including improvements to the dodging system, the user interface, and character creation.
For a game that dates back to 2012, the reboot looks really good. Let’s hope that the new version meets the expectations of the small but dedicated fanbase and gives RaiderZ a long second life.
What are your thoughts on such reboots? Wasted energy or a real chance for success?
