Dead by Daylight would love to win an award. But the players unite and say clearly: ‘You can scratch that!’
Every year on Steam, together with the autumn sale, the nomination of the games of the year takes place. There are numerous categories, such as ‘Best VR Game’, ‘Better with Friends’, or ‘Labor of Love’. The developers of Dead by Daylight would love to receive that award and are calling on their players to vote. However, the players are showing their anger.
What is the ‘Labor of Love’? It is a special category for games that have been on the market for a while and are no longer considered ‘new’. However, games that are still receiving new content after a long time can be nominated – which applies to Dead by Daylight.
Community reacts angrily: For many players, the ‘Labor of Love’ is also a category where games should be honored for which the developers have poured their heart and soul into and have responded to the community’s wishes. However, this feeling seems to be absent for many players. Therefore, there are numerous comments under the announcement, and almost all of them are negative. Here are a few excerpts:
- ‘Bruh, you don’t deserve this.’
- ‘”Labor of Love” – Tell me another joke.’
- ‘How much crack are you smoking right now?’
- ‘Labor of Ignoring the Community sounds more fitting.’
- ‘You couldn’t care less about your game and your player base, but then you want our vote, ha, lol, sure.’
The consequence of all these comments: Just about an hour after the call to vote for Dead by Daylight, the post was closed and new comments were no longer allowed.
Why is the mood so bad right now? There are many reasons:
- On one hand, players have been complaining for years that every patch brings many new bugs and needs several hotfixes to run smoothly.
- At the same time, many design decisions of the past years and months have been harshly criticized. The ‘SBMM’ (Skill Based Match Making) is controversial, as players never see a value for comparison and can only guess how good they are. Also, the evaluation of this system is extremely simple, which often leads to unfair matches.
- Some innovations, such as the ‘Boon-Perks’, are receiving negative feedback from parts of the community.
At least: The Reddit post, which deals with this community award, has collected over 10,000 upvotes, with 97% positive feedback – an extreme rarity in Dead by Daylight. Here, most players who hang out in the subreddit seem to agree.
That’s also somehow the absurdly beautiful thing about Dead by Daylight. The only thing that unites ‘Killer mains’ and ‘Survivor mains’ in their hearts is their shared hatred for the game they play for hours day after day.
