A sad day for Dead by Daylight. The content from “Stranger Things” is no longer available from today – it is being removed from the game.
So far, the number of playable characters in Dead by Daylight has only grown since its release. There have been new killers, new survivors, and plenty of new maps that have expanded the game over the past five years. However, the time has now come when that number is finally decreasing.
One killer, two survivors, and one map are being removed from Dead by Daylight.
What will be removed? As of today, November 18, a number of contents have disappeared from Dead by Daylight and are no longer available. These are the contents from the “Stranger Things” universe. The following are no longer available:
- Demogorgon (Killer)
- Nancy Wheeler (Survivor)
- Steve Harrington (Survivor)
This also includes all cosmetic items.
Additionally, the “Hawkins” map has been removed from the game. It can no longer be accessed, and the associated offerings have also been removed and exchanged for bloodpoints a few days ago.
What if you purchased the content? If you purchased the Demogorgon, Nancy, or Steve along with their corresponding cosmetics, you can still keep and use them. You can continue to play these survivors, who are essentially just “skins.”
On the other hand, the Demogorgon is a unique killer and will not be available to new players in the future. Only previous buyers can use him, which is why he will become a certain rarity.
Those who have unlocked these characters on their account will be able to boast in a few months or years about owning something that new players can no longer acquire.
What about the perks of the characters? Since Steve, Nancy, and the Demogorgon had unique perks that were sometimes quite strong, the developers of Dead by Daylight have renamed them and turned them into “standard perks” that can appear with all killers and survivors.
You will have no game disadvantages if you did not purchase the “Stranger Things” characters.
Why are the contents disappearing? This is likely because Netflix did not extend its licensing agreement with Behaviour. The exact reason for this has not been disclosed, but there are several speculations. Netflix has been trying for some months to establish itself in the gaming market with its own productions. Therefore, it seems only logical that they want to use their own strong IPs – such as Stranger Things – primarily themselves.
Whether the license will be granted again in the future is questionable. One can thus initially assume that Nancy, Steve, and the Demogorgon are now “never again” obtainable.
