How impressive the advantages of team play in Dead by Daylight are, is shown by a team that perfectly counters the killer – and has a lot of fun doing it.
In Dead by Daylight, team play is essential for the survivors to live up to their name and survive. Most players probably know that surviving together with communication via voice chat is simply better than going solo – even if that adds to the thrill for some players.
But the amazing feats possible only through communication were showcased by a team on the Dead by Daylight subreddit, astonishing the community.
What is there to see? The match is already in the last phase – all generators have been repaired and only the exit gates need to be opened. The Trapper, however, has been prepared and has set both exit gates with bear traps. Whoever wants to open the gate must disarm the trap first. However, this triggers a loud warning signal that would immediately alert the killer and reveal the survivors’ position.
However, the survivors have learned a nasty (or clever) trick and open the gate nonetheless, without alerting the killer. This was only possible with perfect team play.
How does it work? Disarming a bear trap takes a few seconds. Only once this is fully completed does it give off a loud alarm signal for the killer. What many players might not know: Even while the bear trap is in the “disarming” state, another survivor can step on it.
The team exploits this by repeatedly starting the disarming process of the bear trap and then canceling it before it finishes. In that brief moment, a second survivor steps on the trap and opens the gate – a little bit each time.
Since disarming a trap only takes a few seconds, there is only a very small window of time in which the other person can safely step on the trap.
Is it intended? It’s rather questionable whether a bear trap should be considered disarmed for other survivors even though it hasn’t actually been disarmed yet. However, it is also a fact that this behavior of the traps has existed in the game for years and allowed survivors to help each other through traps without triggering them. That this mechanic can also be used to fully open a gate has not been shown before.
No matter how one feels about it – the mere fact that this worked without triggering the trap is quite exciting and allows for a deserved escape for the survivors.
