The times of face camping in Dead by Daylight are approaching their end. The developers have a plan to make this impossible.
If you look at the community’s criticism of the horror game “Dead by Daylight”, the same points are repeatedly raised. Regardless if the criticism comes from the killers or the survivors – the complaints have remained the same over the years.
On the survivors’ side, the biggest point of criticism has always been the “face camping” practiced by some killers. After years of complaints, this issue is finally being addressed.
What is “face camping”? “Face camping” refers to when the killer hangs a survivor and then stands directly in front of the hook, essentially right “in front of the survivor’s face.” This is often seen as unfair. However, it is not called face camping when the killer stays nearby because they know that other survivors are also in close proximity.
Why was face camping a problem? Face camping is primarily frowned upon because it reduces the enjoyment of the game for all involved.
Although face camping is usually a tactical disadvantage for the killer, as the rest of the survivors can repair all generators and escape in the meantime, the playstyle is extremely boring. The survivor on the hook can only helplessly watch as their health bar shrinks while the others repair generators without ever encountering the killer.
How are the developers fixing the problem? After long deliberations, the developers are adopting an idea that has been circulating in the community for some time:
- Survivors now have a new display on the hook, called the “Camp Meter”.
- It fills up as long as the killer is nearby. The closer the killer is, the faster the display fills up.
- However, the display fills up more slowly when other survivors are nearby.
- As soon as the display is full, the survivor can free themselves with a 100% probability. Survivors who use this will receive “Endurance” for 15 seconds (they won’t go down with a single hit).
- The feature is disabled once the exit gates have been powered (i.e., the last generator has been repaired).
As a result, killers should hardly be able to engage in face camping anymore – and even if they do, they provide the survivor with a free escape.
When will this go live? No exact date for the patch is available yet. Currently, the patch is being rigorously tested on the test servers (PTB). This usually takes between 2 to 3 weeks before the developers are satisfied with the results.
After that, the time of “face camping” in Dead by Daylight is likely to come to an end for good.
