The developers of Dead by Daylight want to significantly improve their “Endgame”. For this, there are now quite radical changes in store that will bring tension.
The last minutes of a match in Dead by Daylight could be frustrating for killers. After the gates were opened, survivors could still troll, tease, and mock the killer. After all, there was no real danger anymore and no pressure to leave the map. But that is going to change now. The endgame of Dead by Daylight is being massively revamped!
What was the problem with the endgame? In Dead by Daylight, the end of a match can stretch on for a long time. If the last survivor decides not to leave the map and instead just continues to sneak around, they can keep the killer trapped in the match for hours. Trolls often do this to force the killer to leave the game with a disconnect – then they earn no points.
There were also often unpleasant moments when the killer and the survivor found the hatch (Falltür), the last escape route for the last survivor, at the same time. This led to the so-called “Hatch Standoff”. The killer and the survivor look at each other and wait – often for many minutes. Since the killer can “grab” a survivor jumping into the hatch, the player who acts first loses. This was boring and frustrating for both parties.
This is how the new endgame will be: With a trailer, the developer Behaviour has now revealed how the “Endgame Collapse” will play out. This is a completely new phase of the game that occurs at the end of a match. The “Endgame Collapse” begins as soon as a gate is opened or the hatch is closed – the killer can do this with this update.
Then a 3-minute timer begins, which is represented for all players by a counting down bar. The bar runs at normal speed when all survivors are on their feet and runs slower when survivors are down or hooked. If the timer reaches the end, all survivors still in the game are instantly sacrificed. The Entity appears and simply impales the corresponding survivor on the spot. In that case, the player is considered sacrificed and gives the killer the corresponding victory and blood points for it.
Especially cool: Both survivors and killers can open the gate to force the “Endgame Collapse”. So if the killer is tired of the annoying survivors who simply won’t approach the gates and prefer to troll him instead, he can start the timer himself.
A hatch is guaranteed: Also new will be that the hatch now always appears for the last survivor, regardless of how many generators have been repaired. Previously, (number of living survivors +1) generators had to be repaired for the hatch to appear at all. The killer can now close the hatch, which in turn activates all generators and initiates the “Endgame Collapse”. The remaining survivor must then open one of the two gates to escape.
New endgame fits the story: Story-wise, the “Endgame Collapse” is the collapse of the game world. The Entity wants the trial to end and begins to destroy the world – because all maps in the game stem from the mind of the Entity. In addition to the countdown bar, players see reddish, threatening cracks all over the map that indicate the coming doom.
The update will likely go live with the next “Mid-Chapter” patch – so in a few weeks.
Cortyn says: I believe I have never been this excited about an announced update as I am now. The “Endgame Collapse” solves many of the problems that matches in Dead by Daylight had. The trolling of survivors will become nearly impossible or at least difficult. That every match now has a fixed endpoint that both sides can enforce is really good and helpful. This should alleviate a lot of frustration from Dead by Daylight that trolls can currently cause.
