The solution to the Leatherface problem is not to remove the masks, but to create a better reporting system.

Let everyone know that Behaviour ended racism today with 6,000 Shimmering Shards.
The majority of comments addressing the masks are rather negative, with only a few positive voices about this decision – at least in the subreddit.
A while ago, we reported on an incident and posed the question of whether this particular cosmetic in Dead by Daylight can be considered racist. At that time, it was only about the usage of the mask and the case seemed clear – apparently the incidents have increased in recent months.
What do you think about this approach? Is it the right choice to remove these masks? Or should the problem have been addressed differently?

Anyone who has ever played the Cannibal will at least receive 6,000 Shimmering Shards as compensation, which can be used to unlock some cosmetic rewards in the shop.
The community is dissatisfied: The announcement has been received negatively by the community. While many understand that the targeted use of the masks is a problem when, for instance, dark-skinned characters are specifically hunted or corresponding streamers are harassed, many feel that removal is the wrong decision.

You heard it here, folks.
Behaviour would rather remove the only free, non-prestige cosmetic available for any licensed killer rather than finally implement a functioning reporting system.

In Dead by Daylight a few of the most popular cosmetics are being removed. Leatherface is losing his face masks. The reason: racism.
Just yesterday we reported on what Dead by Daylight plans to bring in the coming months in terms of meaningful changes. Now, a second blog post revealed even more details, and one change is causing quite a stir. The killer “Leatherface” is losing 4 cosmetic items. The reason for this seems to be that some players chose them for racist motives.
What are these cosmetic items? The skins in question are literally “skins,” as they are masks that the killer Leatherface can pull over his face – just like he does in the movie “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.”
In addition to his standard mask, he can unlock skin masks in four different colors. To do this, he has to hang up the standard survivors (Meg, Jake, Dwight, and Claudette) enough times in the basement to unlock their respective skin color as a mask.
Why is this being changed now? In the latest “Developer Update,” it states:
Members of the community have shared their experiences with people who specifically targeted and harassed them because some of these masks were used. These reports saddened us, and we condemn this behavior unreservedly. We do not feel good about having these masks in the game when they are used as a tool to sow hatred. For this reason, we will remove the unlockable faces of the Cannibal [Leatherface] in the upcoming Mid-Chapter Update.
The four unlockable masks in the colors of the survivors will thus be removed from the game.
Anyone who has ever played the Cannibal will at least receive 6,000 Shimmering Shards as compensation, which can be used to unlock some cosmetic rewards in the shop.
