Fans of Dead by Daylight have long awaited dedicated servers. At the last minute, the developers have postponed the plan once again.
If you listen to the players of Dead by Daylight, there is hardly any feature that is demanded as loudly as dedicated servers. This would solve many problems and lead to a better gaming experience in the 4vs1 horror game. But this feature has now been postponed, because the developers are struggling with some issues.
What is the problem so far? Currently, the killer is always also the host of the respective game, as he acts as the “server”. However, this also means that the latencies of all players depend on the killer’s internet connection. This often leads to lags and delays, sometimes even being maliciously exploited by killers through “lag-switching”.
Other players simply left the game, when they had enough, without facing any penalty. For these (and other) reasons, dedicated servers are in planning, which will be offered directly by the developer.
Do you actually know which killer suits you best?
Test phase was underway, but there were errors: The first tests with dedicated servers in Dead by Daylight have already been completed. The feedback was good, and many players praised the positive aspects, such as the reduced latency. However, new bugs also surfaced with dedicated servers that caused partial massive errors in the game or made it unplayable. Some of these included:
- Projectiles fly with a delay (axes, secret, bottles).
- Hits are not registered correctly.
- Multiple hits in one action (e.g., the Huntress hits multiple survivors with one axe).
- The Trapper places 2 traps at once when setting up a trap.
- Blind effects (flashlight, fireworks) sometimes last indefinitely.
- Interactions with objects (windows, generators, totems, boxes, etc.) occur with a delay.
When will the servers come? All the errors mentioned above have led the developers to decide to postpone the dedicated servers in Dead by Daylight for the time being. The new time window for this is “Fall 2019”, meaning sometime between October and December. Dedicated servers are set to launch simultaneously across all major platforms (PC, PS4, Xbox One).
Fans of Dead by Daylight do not have to feel sad, as the waiting time will be bridged with new content. Tomorrow (09/17/2019), the new DLC “Stranger Things” will launch and bring the Demogorgon from the Netflix series!
