Story, blood points, and plenty of gross skins. The Halloween event in Dead by Daylight sets new standards for the horror game.
Currently, a Halloween event is taking place in Dead by Daylight, and the developers are doing something completely new this year. Instead of just repairing special generators, survivors must harvest strange plants and create gruesome serum from them. All this relates to the story of Dead by Daylight, which is slowly taking clearer shape.
What is there to do at the event? Depending on your role, you have different tasks:
- Survivors must fill vials from disgusting plants that are located all over the maps. Each plant has only a certain amount of nectar. Survivors must be quick before their teammates harvest everything.
- Killers hang survivors on special event hooks that are adorned with the creepy plants. This way, they get their nectar.
- The number of available plants and event hooks can be increased by special event offerings.
If a vial is completely filled, the account receives “serum” at the end of the match, a special currency that can only be redeemed in the shop during the event.
What does the serum bring? The serum can be used for the duration of the event to purchase new cosmetic items in the shop. There are seven complete outfits available, each consisting of three individual parts. There is one set for:
- Huntress
- Doctor
- Spirit
- Hillbilly
- Trapper
- Dwight
- Claudette
Unfortunately, there is no new skin for the new killer “The Spirit”.
Through the obtainable serum, players can buy a maximum of 2 outfits (6 individual pieces); the rest can be purchased in the shop for real currency if desired.
Each individual piece costs 10 serum, a complete set therefore costs 30 serum. Killers and survivors can each collect 30 serum, totaling a maximum of 60 serum.
How long does the event last? “The Hallowed Blight” is available until November 2nd. Shortly thereafter, the earned serum will disappear, and the cosmetic items will then only be available for real currency in the shop.
Story for Dead by Daylight
However, the event is more than just collecting serum. It even received a small “story trailer” showing a survivor making the serum.
Every day, a small text will be published in the game that resembles a diary. The entries report on an annual interval in which the Entity, the being that sends out the killers and keeps the survivors trapped in a surreal world, undergoes a “cleansing”. This causes these creepy blooms to appear everywhere, and the yellow, pus-like nectar becomes visible.
The obtainable skins are connected to this story: The killers have been “corrupted” and mutated by the serum. Almost all killers can be found with a syringe somewhere that they received the serum through.
The mysterious survivor is Benedikt Baker, who is also responsible for the “flavor texts” on many items. What the annual cleansing of the Entity has to do with will surely be revealed in the coming weeks and months.
Cortyn says: Although the developers only provide small “story bites”, it is nice to finally learn a bit more about the backstory of the Entity. I hope that more such events will come in the next months, as this makes the horror game even more interesting.
The only downside at present is that many players no longer play “seriously”, but rather focus on their vial as survivors and then willingly die to quickly collect the next nectar. This needs to be improved.
Have you seen why Dead by Daylight has recently switched to “Pay2Lose”?
