The latest patch of Dead by Daylight has silenced the killer Pinhead – now for good. But what lies behind it?
Dead by Daylight has released a new patch. At first glance, not much has changed for players, as it is mainly a bug fix patch. However, update 5.2.2 also fuels rumors that there are legal issues with the latest killer Pinhead – as his last sound has also been removed.
What is the problem? On the PTR, the latest killer “Pinhead” still had his own voice lines, in which he even said some of his most famous lines from the films. Especially the line “The Box. You opened it. And I came.” was popular among players, but was also often used for parodies. When Pinhead was released, all voice lines were disabled – the killer remained silent. Only a single “groan of pain” could occasionally be heard, which remained from the voice lines.
What has happened now? The latest hotfix patch has also removed the last sound, so Pinhead now does not make any human sounds at all. The only effects left are the rattling of his chains and the various destruction sounds, such as when he breaks a palette. All voiced sounds are now permanently disabled.
Previously, Behaviour had already disabled a large part of the voice effects, but only indicated that there was “a problem” with it. There was no further information, except that they “could not talk about it.” This raises the suspicion that there is some kind of legal dispute and issues with the licensing of the voice afterwards. This is hard to explain why Pinhead remains silent, especially since his release was several weeks ago.
What else is in the patch? Aside from the silent Pinhead, the patch contains a number of bug fixes. Among the most important changes are:
- The palettes have gotten their old look back.
- Survivors in the lobbies now have the correct cosmetics equipped.
- Multiple issues with the pursuit music of the Cenobite have been fixed.
- Some faulty quests in the archive can now be completed.
Aside from that, the map “Dead Dog Saloon” remains disabled. The errors here are still too severe and need to be fixed first.
What is your theory about why the Cenobite Pinhead has lost his voice?
