The new killer in Dead by Daylight is the Onryō, the cursed girl from the Ringu story. We reveal what she can do.
The latest chapter of Dead by Daylight, Sadako Rising, has been officially announced. In the PTB, players can already test the chapter and try out the new killer along with all related contents. The centerpiece is of course the killer Onryō, who is better known to most as Sadako Yamamura – the cursed girl from the Ringu film.
What can the killer Onryō do? The power of the Onryō is relatively complicated, as it contains quite a few components. We will try to explain it step by step.
The Onryō starts the game in a “demanifested” state. As long as she maintains this, she has the “Undetectable” buff, therefore she does not create a red stain or a terror radius. Additionally, she is completely invisible to survivors who are more than 32 meters away from her. Within 32 meters, survivors see the Onryō at brief intervals, appearing and disappearing intermittently. While the Onryō is demanifested, she cannot attack.
By using her power, the Onryō can manifest. This takes a few seconds but allows her to attack normally afterwards. For a few seconds after manifesting, the Onryō remains occasionally invisible before becoming permanently visible – at least until she demanifests again.
The second component of her ability is the TVs that are scattered across the map. As in the Ringu film, Sadako can crawl out of the TVs – a teleportation across the entire map. Teleporting to a TV disables it for a while before it is automatically turned back on.
Survivors must manage a new status against the Onryō. When they witness the Onryō crawling out of a TV, they receive “Condemnation”. This status builds up slowly.
Survivors can turn off TVs to prevent the Onryō from teleporting to them. However, turning off a TV also increases the condemnation progress and gives the survivor a video cassette. As long as the survivor carries such a cassette, the condemnation status gradually increases.
A special TV is marked for each survivor. If they bring the cassette there and deliver it, the condemnation status decreases slightly.
If the condemnation is completely filled, the survivor is revealed to the killer. The killer can directly kill that survivor once they are downed – regardless of whether they are already on a hook.
These are the perks of the Onryō
Like all killers, the Onryō comes with three unique perks. At the beginning, only she can use these perks, but they can also be unlocked for all other killers through the blood web in their teachable form.
- Scourge Hook: Floods of Rage – At the start of the round, 4 hooks become scourge hooks, whose auras are known to the killer. If a survivor is rescued from such a hook, the killer sees the aura of all other survivors for 5 / 6 / 7 seconds.
- Call of Brine – After a generator is disturbed, this perk activates for 60 seconds. The regression of the generator is at 150 % / 175 % / 200 % of normal speed. Each time a survivor succeeds in a skill check on this generator, the killer is alerted by a loud noise.
- Merciless Storm – When a generator reaches 90 % progress, survivors will face relentless skill checks. If they fail a check or leave the generator, it is blocked by the entity for 16 / 18 / 20 seconds. This effect can only be triggered once per generator.
These are the perks of Yoichi Asakawa
The new survivor Yoichi Asakawa also has unique perks that are initially only available to him but can ultimately be unlocked for all survivors through the blood web.
- Parental Guidance – After stunning the killer, you leave no scratch marks, no bloodstains, and your pain sounds are suppressed for 5 / 6 / 7 seconds.
- Empathetic Connection – When another survivor is injured, they can see your aura within a radius of 32 / 64 / 96 meters. You heal other survivors 10 % faster.
- Boon: Dark Theory – You bless a dull totem or a hex totem. Survivors within a radius of 24 meters receive a speed boost of 2 %. The effect remains active for 2 / 3 / 4 seconds after leaving the totem’s range.
When is the “Ringu” chapter released? The release for the DLC was announced for March 8, 2022, so in about 3 weeks. Presumably in the early evening, you will be able to get your hands on the killer, survivors, and the new perks and transfer the deadly curse onto others.
