In Dead by Daylight there have been challenges for a few weeks now – but they are extremely difficult. Many players in the community think this is not well designed.
For just over two weeks now, the Archives feature has been active in Dead by Daylight. Here, players can unlock background information and cinematics, as well as earn cosmetic items and bloodpoints. This is done through various challenges. After the challenges at level 1 were quite solid, level 2 has now been unlocked – and they are sometimes so difficult that many players are in despair. But it gets worse.
What is the problem? To make progress in the respective “Tome” of Dead by Daylight, you must complete specific tasks. The first tasks are still quite simple, such as:
- Rescue 2 survivors safely from hooks in a match.
- Sacrifice a survivor during the Endgame Collapse.
- Search 3 chests in a single match.
But on level 2 it gets more difficult. There are some requirements such as:
- Repair 3 generators fully in a match.
- Blind the killer 2 times in a match.
- Catch 4 survivors in bear traps within a match.
Some of the requirements are extremely difficult. Fully repairing three generators alone means that the rest of the team – the other 3 survivors – can only complete 2 generators together in the match. You must be lucky enough to be able to work on generators in peace the whole time and have teammates who do not like to work on generators.
Have you seen the teaser for the next killer?
Level 4 will be even harder: A few players were able to see the challenges for level 4 already due to a bug, meaning the tasks from the past weeks. These are an entirely different caliber and seem to be hardly achievable through normal gameplay. A few examples?
- Blind the killer while he carries a survivor, 2 times in a match.
- Fully repair 4 generators in a single match.
- Search 4 chests in a single match.
- Rescue three survivors in a match after the Endgame Collapse has started.
- Sacrifice 4 survivors in the basement in a match.
Many of these challenges are almost impossible to achieve through normal gameplay. The task with the chests can only be solved through special offerings, as only 2-3 chests appear on each map by default. You must increase the number of chests through offerings. If multiple survivors pursue this task simultaneously, it is impossible. The other challenges are of similar difficulty and will likely be completed by very few players.
How are players reacting? Since the difficulty of the challenges has become widely known, memes and a lot of criticism have flooded the Dead by Daylight subreddit. Players hope that the developers will fine-tune the challenges and make them easier or at least remove the requirement to complete them in a single match.
The new challenges are crazy. from r/deadbydaylight
The biggest point of criticism is that the challenges are an important part of unlocking all cosmetics in the Rift. This can only be done within a specific time frame. Although you can unlock everything without the challenges, it takes an extremely long time.
How do you perceive the difficulty level of the challenges? Are they good and appropriate? Or way too hard?
