An era in Dead by Daylight is coming to an end. The Demogorgon, Steve, and Nancy are disappearing. Behaviour is losing the “Stranger Things” license.
Fans of Dead by Daylight need to be strong now, as the number of available killers and survivors is shrinking for the first time in the game’s history. All characters from the “Stranger Things” DLC will soon no longer be available in Dead by Daylight. And it gets worse: The special map, Hawkins National Laboratory, will completely disappear from the world of the Entity.
What happened? Dead by Daylight announced via Twitter that the “Stranger Things” content will soon be removed from the game’s shop. In the future, it will not be possible to purchase the killer Demogorgon or the survivors Nancy Wheeler or Steve Harrington. Until November 17, interested players have the opportunity to secure these characters – after that, this option will disappear permanently.
Why is this happening? There was no specific answer as to why Dead by Daylight could not extend the licensing rights for Stranger Things. However, the most likely theory is that Netflix itself is planning a “Stranger Things” game and therefore does not support competing products with its own licenses.
After all, Netflix recently announced that it intends to enter the video game market and publish its own games. Therefore, it seems reasonable to deny licenses of its own productions to other publishers and developers.
However, there is no confirmation for this.
What if you already have the characters? Nothing. Those who already own the characters or purchase them by November 17 can keep and continue to use them. All purchased cosmetics can also continue to be used.
For killer collectors, this also means that anyone wanting to play the Demogorgon in the future should act now, so that a killer doesn’t end up missing from their collection.
There will be some sales in the coming days. The characters and their cosmetics will be reduced by 50% starting August 18. This is the perfect opportunity for collectors to get in on the deal.
What will happen to the perks and achievements? The characters’ perks will still be available through the Shrine of Secrets, even if Nancy, Steve, and the Demogorgon can no longer be purchased.
Achievements associated with the characters will be reworked into “generic” achievements that can be unlocked with all characters. If you have already unlocked the corresponding achievements, you will keep them.
What will happen to the map? This is particularly bitter for all fans of the “Hawkins National Laboratory” map. Starting November 17, this map will no longer be accessible in the game – neither in private nor in public matches. The map will simply be removed from the game without replacement.
The loss of a license is a novelty in Dead by Daylight. Stranger Things was only in the game for just under 2 years – and now is the last chance to permanently secure the characters before this option expires.
How are players reacting: In the Dead by Daylight subreddit, players are reacting shocked and dismayed to this announcement. Especially the map “Hawkins National Laboratory” is popular among many players, as it is an interesting indoor map. But the very fact that Dead by Daylight can lose licenses and killers may become “unattainable” again concerns many players. After all, this could mean that in the long run, other characters – like Michael Myers or Freddy Krueger – might also disappear from the game.
