The roadmap for the upcoming months in Dead by Daylight has been released. The developers are “stepping up” and promise many new contents.
Last Friday, a big stream about Dead by Daylight took place. After all, the 4vs1 horror game has just celebrated its 3rd birthday, and it was time for new information. Behaviour has published the “roadmap” for the next 12 months, explaining what is being worked on and what plans will be realized next year.
Four new chapters, but in a different format: Basically, the developers stick to releasing a new chapter every 3 months. So far, chapters have always included a killer, a survivor, and a new map. However, this will be somewhat different in year 4 of the game. The first chapter “Ghost Face” starts only with a new killer, without a map or survivors. The following chapter will also have a new map, but this is no longer guaranteed.
Since killers have probably the biggest influence on gameplay for all players and are more or less the “figurehead” for Dead by Daylight, it is likely that there will be a new killer in every major chapter.
Between two chapters, there will be “Mid Chapter Patches” that will bring smaller innovations and improvements – here everything will remain as usual.
Reworks instead of new maps: The reason two chapters are released without new maps is primarily that major reworks of existing maps have been announced. Together with the big Freddy rework in the next “Mid Chapter Patch”, they want to overhaul the Badham Preschool. It currently has too many large loop spots where survivors can lead the killer in circles for minutes.
New game contents: Besides “more of the same”, Dead by Daylight also wants to bring entirely new game contents. In autumn, there will be the “Archives”, in which players can unlock certain story sequences and cosmetic items. This works through a new quest system of sorts. Players must complete different tasks as killers and survivors to unlock rewards and the next quest steps.
Dedicated servers in summer: Another major step is the introduction of dedicated servers. Until now, killer players have always been the “hosts” of a match, which can lead to several problems, such as high latencies and disconnects. This will be circumvented with dedicated servers.
Disconnects will be punished harder here, as the cause is easier to identify. Poor latencies will be minimized, affecting only the respective player and no longer all others.
Matchmaking and friends system: Improving matchmaking remains an important point for the developers. Especially in edge cases, namely in particularly high and particularly low ranks, waiting times are to be improved. There can be wait times of several minutes.
Lastly, Dead by Daylight wants to offer an internal friends system in the game. This will make it possible to stay in a group even after finishing a round and log in together again. Until now, players had to form a new group each time, which cost time and nerves.
In summary, Dead by Daylight has many big plans for 2019 and 2020. If most points of the roadmap are kept, the horror game should continue to develop splendidly.
Are you looking forward to new contents? Or would you prefer to see other priorities?
By the way, the new killer Ghost Face is coming next – he has already been introduced here.
