Even before the celebrations for the 3rd anniversary of Dead by Daylight, there were some leaks seen on Reddit. Fans had already discovered that there could soon be a type of “Battle Pass” in Dead by Daylight. This has now been confirmed. We reveal what the developers had in mind and how it will work in Dead by Daylight.
What is a Battle Pass? Battle Passes are typically used in free-to-play games, such as Fortnite. Players can purchase an unlock, usually for real money, that rewards different actions. These are essentially new missions and quests in the game that are rewarded with prizes.
How does the Battle Pass work in Dead by Daylight? In one of the upcoming patches (likely in the fall), Dead by Daylight will introduce the feature of the Archives. This includes story and quests that reveal more about the lore of certain characters. At the same time, a “Rift” will open up with these quests, which will only be active for a few months. In this Rift, players will find two different paths – one free and one paid.
The paths contain various tasks that can be completed in the game. These include missions for killers and survivors, which are usually linked to the current story of the Archives. Those who progress along the paths will unlock new cosmetic items for killers and survivors.
Some of these cosmetic items are available on the “free” path. However, those who want all the cosmetics will have to purchase the Battle Pass and can then also obtain the items from the second path.
Is Dead by Daylight then Pay2Win? There were already concerns that Dead by Daylight might become “Pay2Win” with new mechanics, if special content could only be unlocked through a Battle Pass. However, this is unlikely. There are only cosmetic items and these are typically rather bright and conspicuous, so they do not aid in stealth.
How much does this Battle Pass cost? There is still no information on the price. After all, this feature is likely not to go live until November, along with the Archives.
How are players reacting to this? The fans’ opinions are currently mixed. Some think it’s good to see more cosmetic items enter Dead by Daylight in this manner. Others believe that a “Battle Pass” should only be used for free-to-play games. After all, players have already paid for Dead by Daylight and its DLCs.
