Fans had to wait a long time, but now it’s finally here. Dead by Daylight is testing dedicated servers.
The makers of Dead by Daylight are currently releasing one big announcement after another. After last week the new endgame was presented, there is now first information about the dedicated servers. These were originally planned to be addressed in the summer, but the first steps are already being taken this week. This will eliminate another source of problems in Dead by Daylight.

What has been the problem until now? In Dead by Daylight, the killer is always the host of a match. If the killer has a low-performance computer or a poor internet connection, the survivors suffer as well.
Some killers even exploit this and engage in “Lag-Switching”. Here, they briefly disconnect from the game, catch a survivor, and then reconnect the PC to the internet. This causes the survivors to experience a brief lag, and then suddenly find themselves on the hook.
What dedicated servers change: With dedicated servers, only your own internet connection is responsible for latency. The killer can no longer exploit the connection. Furthermore, dedicated servers are supposed to ensure a consistently good connection, so that lags and other delays are a thing of the past.
When will the servers come? Starting tomorrow (April 25), Behaviour will test the servers in the PTR version of Dead by Daylight. If the tests are successful, then live tests will follow in the main version of the game, but only after the release of the “Mid-Chapter” patch 2.7. It does not yet have a release date, but is expected within the next two to three weeks.
After that, the dedicated servers will be gradually activated. At first, only a small percentage of players will be able to test the servers, then more and more.
First the PC, consoles will come later: The activation of the dedicated servers will occur in waves. First, more and more players on PC will slowly gain access to the servers, so Behaviour can closely monitor how much load the servers can handle and what the limits of the system are. Once that works on PC, the servers will also be activated on the console versions of Dead by Daylight – again in waves.
By the way: One of the data centers used for the servers is located in Frankfurt. In Germany, we can expect good latencies.
Are you looking forward to dedicated servers in Dead by Daylight? Or do you think it’s fine how it is currently handled?
