In Dead by Daylight, players are currently rampaging, as almost every match is ruthlessly unfair. A “great change” has caused this.
Although Dead by Daylight was one of the larger, unexpected successes of recent years, the horror game continuously struggles with issues. The latest update is currently upsetting almost all players on PC. Once again, matchmaking has been revised, leaving chaos and devastation in its wake.
What’s going on? Shortly after the release of Patch 4.1.0 in Dead by Daylight, the developers released a new matchmaking system. However, it works so poorly that within hours, the official forums and the Dead by Daylight subreddit were flooded with complaints and memes. Numerous players are expressing their dissatisfaction with the new matchmaking.
This MMR making me feel like a babysitter. from r/deadbydaylight
Reports are continually emerging about how veterans are being matched with complete newcomers. This affects both sides, both killers and survivors. Sometimes an experienced killer faces survivors who barely understand the game’s basic mechanics, and other times a new killer is completely dismantled by pros.
What was supposed to happen? The new matchmaking system promised many improvements beforehand. Instead of relying on the rank system, which is not a good indicator of player skill, there was supposed to be a classic MMR (Match Making Rating) in the background. This would evaluate players based on their performance and thereby ensure fair, balanced matches.
Data on all players was even collected beforehand to categorize them according to their individual skills right from the start of the system.
Theoretically, a good plan.
This is how the community reacts: In the Dead by Daylight subreddit, user Scarfee summarizes it relatively well. He writes as feedback:
When the system was announced, I had hope that it wouldn’t be so terrible.
Fast forward to now, I am a rank-4 survivor with over 600 hours in the game and getting matched in 4 out of 5 games with 3 players at rank 20 to face a killer at rank 1-3. For two days, I’ve had dozens of these games in a row.
If there was a phase of ‘background data collection’, it was either too short or it simply didn’t exist. (…)
Somewhere, someone who created the algorithm for this system messed up, and if nothing changes over the course of this week, then I think they should pull the system back and think again about what is happening right now. Because right now, the game is pure chance.
Many share this opinion, and it seems to reflect the overall sentiment in the subreddit right now.
Dead by Daylight often has problems: The developers have not yet commented on this issue. Players suspect that they want to let a few days pass first to see if the sentiment settles down. Maybe the system simply needs a longer time to properly assess players – so far, this does not seem to be the case.
Dead by Daylight unfortunately has a rather sad tradition of completely ruining matchmaking every few months. Usually, the mistake is fixed within a few weeks, but it continues to accumulate.
Currently, a match in Dead by Daylight resembles a game of chance. Because who you play with or against seems completely random.
At least you can use these “chaos days” to try out some killers and find out which killer is best for you …
