The probably most annoying mechanic from Dead by Daylight is gone. Players rejoice, as the days of “spamming the spacebar” are finally over.
In Dead by Daylight, the new patch 4.7.0 is live, bringing a lot of changes. On one hand, there is finally new story for Bill, the survivor from Left 4 Dead, and on the other hand, the horror game has just removed its most annoying mechanic. The “struggling,” where you had to spam the spacebar, is now a thing of the past.
What has changed? When a survivor on the hook reaches the second victim phase, they previously had to spam the spacebar (PC) or a button on the gamepad (console). This was called “struggling” – it was quite exhausting and often annoying. Because those who spammed too slowly were immediately executed. Pressing the button too quickly or not lifting the finger far enough, which registered constant pressure in the game, would also result in immediate death. Not to mention, it was very uncomfortable to have to wildly press a button for up to 60 seconds.
The system has been completely abolished. Instead, survivors now have to complete a series of skill checks in the second victim phase to fight against the Entity. The following rules apply:
- Failed skill checks accelerate the speed at which the Entity sacrifices the player.
- If a player does not participate in 2 skill checks in a row (neither passing nor failing), they die instantly. This is equivalent to “giving up” the previous mechanic.
Thus, the developers are adopting an idea that previously belonged only to the killer The Executioner. The Executioner could imprison players in cages where skill checks had to be completed to avoid death.
What else is in the patch? Aside from this change, the patch has also brought a whole series of visual upgrades. All maps of the “Coldwind Farm” have been revamped and shine, along with the Doctor, in a new light. The graphics have been significantly polished, and new textures and objects provide more immersion and a more interesting game world. A small trailer for this can be found here:
More revisions for killers: In addition, there are a number of smaller adjustments to four killers. This includes:
- Charlotte (Twins) can now spin while waking up, but the cooldown of Victor’s successful jump attacks has been increased. At the same time, Victor can now move during this cooldown.
- The Demogorgon can now travel through the other side faster and is longer concealed when doing so. Additionally, he moves faster while charging his jump attack, and many addons have been reworked.
- The Nightmare has been nerfed. He is now slower when placing traps and has fewer charges for traps and fake pallets. Also, using a wake-up alarm now protects for 30 seconds from falling back asleep – even when attacked by the killer.
- The Huntress has received many addon changes. She can disable her terror radius after retrieving axes from a locker or increase her movement speed when she has no axes left. Her most dangerous addon, the “Iridescent Head,” now prevents carrying more than one axe.

Better perks for survivors: The perks of survivors have also been significantly adjusted. Some of the most important perks have been improved or received new functions:
- Small Game now shows the number of totems that have already been blessed, and the perk sound is no longer triggered by the totem currently being blessed.
- Lucky Break now also hides scratch marks, but the duration has been reduced to 35 / 40 / 45 seconds.
- Open-Handed increases the aura reading ability of all survivors by 8 / 12 / 16 meters, but the effect is not stackable.
- Object of Obsession has been completely changed. Whenever the killer sees the aura of the survivor, the survivor also sees the killer’s aura and works 2 % / 4 % / 6 % faster. However, if one is the obsession themselves, the killer’s own aura is revealed to the killer every 30 seconds for 3 seconds.
What do you think of the changes? Do you like the new struggle phase? Or did you prefer the old system with button spamming?
