The latest patch in Dead by Daylight is live and features a new killer and two survivors – but also a pretty nasty nerf.
Just a few hours ago, Dead by Daylight received its 29th killer, as the “Resident Evil: Project W” chapter has gone live. This brings not just the nasty “Mastermind” as a tentacle killer, but also two tough women from the Resident Evil universe to face the dangers: Ada Wong and Rebecca Chambers.
We’ll tell you what all three characters can do and what you can expect in the horror chase from now on.
What can the Mastermind do? Albert Wesker, who is referred to as the “Mastermind” in Dead by Daylight, has quite a few cool and fresh abilities. Using his Uroboros virus, he can injure several survivors quickly, even pick them up directly with an attack or climb over pallets and windows. However, this comes with a disadvantage: The Mastermind has the largest terror radius in Dead by Daylight, with a radius of 40 meters (“heartbeat”).
The killer’s special attack allows him to execute two quick lunge attacks after a short charging time, during which he can change direction and even move a bit. If a survivor is hit during this, they are infected with the virus, lifted, and then thrown forward. If they collide with a wall, they take damage. If they hit another survivor, both take damage.
The virus infection progresses over time. If a survivor is completely affected by it, the Mastermind can grab them directly out of his attack with his special attack and carry them to the next hook.
Survivors can heal from the infection as there are various spray cans scattered around the map that contain a healing substance. The cans can be used multiple times but are rather limited – eventually, there will be no more healing options.
The new perks of the killer Mastermind
Like all killers, the Mastermind comes with 3 perks that further enhance his abilities. They are:
- Superior Anatomy: When a survivor vaults over a window or a pallet quickly within 8 meters, this perk activates. The next time the killer vaults through a window, he does so 30% / 35% / 40% faster. The perk has a cooldown of 30 seconds.
- Awakened Awareness: While the killer carries a survivor, he sees the aura of all other survivors within 16 / 18 / 20 meters.
- Terminus: When the exit gates are powered, this perk activates. As long as this perk is active, injured, dying, and hooked survivors are affected by the “Broken” status (cannot be healed from “injured”) until the exit gates are opened. After the exit gates are opened, survivors remain in the “Broken” status for 20 / 25 / 30 more seconds.
The perks of the Mastermind are initially only available to him. However, you can also unlock them for all other killers through the prestige system.
The new perks of survivors Ada Wong and Rebecca Chambers
Both survivors also have three unique perks each to better escape dangers.
Ada Wong’s perks are:
- Wiretap: After the survivor repairs a generator for 33%, this perk activates. After a generator has been repaired for 3 seconds, you can press the active ability button to place a bug on the generator, which stays active for 60 / 70 / 80 seconds. The aura of the bugged generator is visible to all other survivors. If the killer is within 14 meters of the affected generator, his aura is revealed to all survivors. Damaging the generator destroys the bug.
- Reactive Healing: When another survivor loses a health state within 32 meters and you are injured, immediately increase your healing progress by 40% / 45% / 50% of the remaining progress.
- Low Profile: If you are the last survivor, this perk activates. Your scratch marks, blood trails, and pain groans are not detectable for 70 / 80 / 90 seconds.
Rebecca Chambers’ perks are:
- Better Than New: When you complete a healing action on another survivor, they receive a speed boost of 12% / 14% / 16% on healing, opening chests, cleansing totems, and blessing totems. The bonus lasts until the survivor gets injured again.
- Reassurance: When you approach a survivor hanging on a hook within 6 meters, you can press the “Active-Ability-2-Key” to pause their health bar for 20 / 25 / 30 seconds. If they’re already in the second hook phase, they also do not have to pass skill checks during this time. The perk can only be triggered once per survivor and hook phase.
- Hyperfocus: If you achieve a great skill check while healing or repairing, this perk earns a token. Each token increases the chance of a skill check by 4%, the speed of the check by 4%, and the bonus progress for great successes by 10% / 20% / 30% of the base value. The perk loses all tokens if you achieve a normal success, fail a check, or cancel the action in any way.
The perks of both survivors are initially only available to them. However, you can also unlock them for all other survivors through the prestige system.
What else has changed? The biggest change affects the “Raccoon City Police Department” map. It has now been divided into two smaller maps, either the east wing or the west wing of the police station. Both maps are a bit smaller, but have been expanded with new outside areas to ensure there are still plenty of paths for exciting chases.
In a last-minute addition, the developers introduced a nerf to the popular survivor perk “Blast Mine.” This perk allows survivors to place an explosive charge on a generator. Previously, the expiration of a mine allowed you to immediately place a new one. Now, you have to earn the next mine again by making progress on the generator. Why the developers made this change has not been disclosed.
Moreover, there are now streamer features. You can hide the names of teammates or your own on the screen or introduce a small, random delay when entering the queue, making “stream-sniping” and targeting a streamer much less easy.
How much does the chapter cost? The price for the “Resident Evil: Project W” chapter is a bit larger than usual. Instead of the usual 7 €, you will have to pay a total of 12 € for the new killer and the two survivors in the bundle. Since the chapter comes with a total of 3 characters, the higher price is probably justified, but whether you want to pay it is up to everyone to decide.
As these are licensed characters, they can only be purchased with real money or the real-money currency (“Auric Cells”). A purchase using the in-game currency earned is not possible in this case.
