Halloween and Dead by Daylight are actually a perfect pair. However, this year the developers have crash-landed the “event”.
Just yesterday we reported on the new skins that are now available in Dead by Daylight. They are part of the new Halloween collection, which is supposed to accompany the annual Halloween event in Dead by Daylight. Now the event is live and players are upset. For many, the event is a disappointment.
What is the problem? Players of Dead by Daylight have been used to being able to earn at least one of the new skins with an additional currency for years. However, this is not the case in 2020. All skins can only be purchased using real money or the known in-game currency. Farming enough bloodpoints takes several hundred hours of gameplay and has nothing to do with the Halloween event. So players are asked to pay.
What can you do new in the game? The innovations in the game are also minimal. While there are a few event add-ons for killers and survivors, they also disappoint. Survivors can modify their flashlight or give themselves a one-time speed boost, while killers can exchange their special ability for a short sprint. This allows you to use the killer’s ability Blight once. Above all, the killer add-on feels more like a bad joke. During the sprint, you cannot attack and after that the add-on is used up. Hardly anyone enjoys this – at least on the subreddit.
How it used to be: In previous years there was always an optional currency. Players could collect serum. Sometimes this was done by “milking” disgusting plants, sometimes by completing special challenges. There was enough serum so that at least every player could earn one of the cool Halloween sets without spending a cent. Those who wanted all sets had to pay, but at least everyone could get their personal favorite set for free.
Why does BHVR suck from r/deadbydaylight
Community pulling together: At least we have to give the developers credit for managing to – probably for the first time in the history of Dead by Daylight – bring all players onto one side. A look at the Dead by Daylight subreddit reveals how unpopular the patch and the event are. Both killers and survivors are complaining, and everyone agrees that Halloween 2020 is a disaster. Accordingly, many memes and criticisms are currently circulating on social media.
This is the first time I’ve seen this whole subreddit on the same page from r/deadbydaylight
And if you manage to unite the Dead by Daylight community, which usually tears each other apart, that is already an impressive achievement. Unfortunately, it is not something to be proud of.
Cortyn says: I absolutely cannot comprehend how the developers from Behaviour could crash this event so badly. Halloween should be the most important time of the year for a game based on horror and fright. Now, during the spooky season, new players could be excited and old players could be shown what the game does so well. Instead, there is an event that doesn’t even deserve the name, and no way to earn any of the sets like in previous years. I have little understanding for this, and my desire to play the game during this time has been stifled right from the start.
What do you think? Do you also find the development terrible? Or do you just play with one of the 21 killers and don’t care about it?
