Dead by Daylight has introduced a new game mode. Many thought it was just an April Fool’s joke – but it has become much bigger. Literally.
In many games, it has become a good tradition to allow a little joke with the players on April 1st. Announcing nonsensical game modes or releasing fake patch notes is quite common. However, some games take it a step further and actually bring a new game mode that would otherwise be too silly. Dead by Daylight takes exactly that step and makes the killer large – really large.
What is special about this mode? The “My Little Oni” mode is extremely fast, and a match is likely to be over in two to three minutes. While the killer is enormous and can be seen almost across the entire map, the survivors are very small. They can knock over pallets, but cannot climb over them. Furthermore, they only have a single “life”. If they go down once, the Oni can kill them directly – by stepping on them.
What does this have to do with fetishes? Dead by Daylight has always had a very special relationship with the fans, who repeatedly request rather provocative content in the forums and on the subreddit. This even led the developers to publish a rather macabre dating game. Some killers have also been named sex symbols.
With “My little Oni”, Dead by Daylight also fulfills a fetish of the fans, as the game’s X/Twitter account stated:
“We have heard your feedback and proudly announce that for a limited time you can let someone step on you in Dead by Daylight. You’re welcome.”
The name “My little Oni” is, of course, a reference to the children’s series “My Little Pony” – although significantly fewer people are chased by a crazy killer in it.
