The next killer in Dead by Daylight is known. A true classic of Japanese horror is coming to the asymmetrical killer game.
In Dead by Daylight, an event with plenty of snowmen and bonus rewards is currently taking place, but the developers are already giving a glimpse into the coming year. In a first teaser, it has been shown which franchise they have collaborated with. Fans of Japanese horror are sure to get their money’s worth.
What has been released? The trailer makes it unmistakably clear that Behaviour has secured the rights to “Ringu.” In the horror story, it centers around a video cassette with a mysterious film. Those who watch the film in its entirety are cursed and plagued by phone calls in the following days before they die exactly 7 years later.
The origin of the curse is the supernatural Sadako Yamamura, who lies at the bottom of a well.
In “Ringu,” the only way to escape the curse is to show the video to another person – who will then be cursed instead.
Isn’t “Ringu” the same as “Ring”? Basically yes. Here in the West, most people associate “Ring” with the 2002 film. However, that is actually a remake of the original Japanese from 1998 “Ring – The Original.” The original is generally considered darker than the remake, but uses fewer special effects. In Germany, the original film “Ringu” flew a bit under the radar, partly due to the poor dubbing.
The chapter in Dead by Daylight is based on the Japanese “Ringu” film and the book by Koji Suzuki.
What can the killer do? That is still completely unclear. In “Ring,” the murders occur after victims have watched a cursed video. 7 days after viewing the film, the viewers die and are plagued by mysterious phone calls until then. At the center of the film is the video cassette with the curse.
It is quite conceivable that the killer possesses an object that must be passed around like a “hot potato” from survivor to survivor to escape the curse. Others speculate that the phone ringing could be related to the killer’s power, as it is also heard in the trailer.
Concrete information will likely only come in February or March 2022, as new killers are usually playable on the test server only about 2 weeks before release.
When is the chapter coming? The “Ringu” chapter will not arrive until March 2022, which will be the next big chapter of the horror game. That Dead by Daylight announces a chapter so early is a bit unusual. Usually, these announcements are made only a few weeks before release. This way, horror fans already get a little glimpse and can look forward to what happens in 2022.
