The studio behind Albion Online, Sandbox Interactive, is fighting on two fronts. It is combating gold sellers and facing extortionists who are resorting to DDoS attacks. Problems that resemble a movie thriller but are frighteningly real.
We reported on Monday that Albion Online suffered from DDoS attacks over the weekend. This often prevented players from playing, while Albion Online is much more successful than expected, and aims to take advantage of the situation.
Now there are more details.
Albion Online: Giving them money would be the worst solution
The spicy part of the matter: The DDoS attacks are simultaneously an extortion attempt. Apparently, the studio has received a monetary demand. The extortionists want ransom, otherwise they will continue with the DDoS attacks.
The studio behind Albion Online has released a statement regarding the affair: They will not give in and pay money under any circumstances. That goes without saying. It would be the worst thing one could do.
Every extortion attempt and every DDoS attack will be reported to the relevant authorities. Realistically, the chances of catching someone are low, but sometimes it happens.
If the authorities catch someone, they will pursue every case as comprehensively and harshly as possible, no matter where the attacker is located. Sandbox Interactive states: These activities are a crime in every jurisdiction around the world. It is always possible to find a local law firm to enforce the law.

Improve infrastructure, compensate fans
In the meantime, they tell the fans: There is no quick solution against DDoS attacks. They are working with experts to improve the infrastructure that protects Albion Online.
Players are promised compensation for their lost time. They will take care of that when the problem is resolved.

Albion Online plans to freeze gold sellers’ accounts
Sandbox Interactive is indirectly fighting the battle against gold sellers. They do not want to attack the gold sellers directly, as that has proven fruitless in the past; instead, they report fraudulent cases to credit card companies and PayPal. The studio behind Albion Online is trying to dry up the gold sellers’ source of income.
Sandbox Interactive believes that if they can inform PayPal and credit card companies about what is happening, they will quickly close the corresponding accounts. They hope that this will freeze their funds.
