The trailer for the film of the DC superhero Supergirl is out, and she is already being compared to a very special killer: John Wick.
Which superheroine is it about? On March 31, 2026, the first official trailer for the upcoming film Supergirl was released. Before that, fans could only be satisfied with teasers.
Supergirl, whose real name is Kara Zor-El, is Superman’s cousin. She comes from Argo City, a part of Krypton, the home of Superman. When the planet was destroyed, Supergirl was sent to Earth along with Superman.
However, her spaceship got stuck in a space-time anomaly, so she arrived on Earth much later. Supergirl has the same powers as Superman.
She was teased at the end of the film Superman by James Gunn. The dog that helped Superman actually belongs to Supergirl, not him. Superman was just supposed to take care of it.
In her own film, Supergirl, played by Milly Alcock, has her dog Krypto back and goes on adventures with him.
Supergirl becomes John Wick
What kind of trick
is that? To make a hero sympathetic to the audience, there are various methods. A clever trick
is to have an innocent animal be harmed by the enemies. This evokes the sense of justice in the audience, who will immediately side with the hero.
This is applied in the Supergirl trailer, but also earlier in the film John Wick. Here, the dog of retired hitman John Wick was killed, leading to a significant revenge action. John Wick acts ruthlessly in his films, yet the audience forgives him almost everything – after all, his dog was killed.
Supergirl should have the same standing with her audience: her dog is poisoned at the beginning of the film and could die without the antidote.
- By the way: The film is based on the Supergirl comic

How does the community react? The parallel to John Wick was also noticed by the community. In the comments under the trailer on YouTube, there are many hints about the killer:
- futurescaper writes:
Did John Wick teach these villains nothing? You don’t mess with the hero’s dog.
- Oburn says:
If you shoot a dog and think you’re off the hook just because it didn’t belong to John Wick.
- thoraxe707 thinks the film combines two special films:
John Wick + Guardians of the Galaxy
The Australian actress Milly Alcock is not the first to portray the DC superheroine Supergirl. In the film The Flash, for example, it was Sasha Calle, who enchanted MeinMMO editor-in-chief Leya Jankowski: Since I saw the new Supergirl from The Flash in theaters, I no longer miss Henry Cavill as Superman
