In 2012, the zombie survival game DayZ started as a mod for the shooter Arma 2. More than half a decade later, the game is now close to entering beta.
The beta is scheduled to be released by the end of the year and will bring significant changes. For the time being, the team will focus solely on making DayZ a stable game.
The DayZ Beta is Coming!
That’s why now is the right time for the beta: As the development team has announced, it is time to present a stable version of DayZ. They want to ensure that bugs are fixed and that the survival game makes a solid impression.
This is intended to happen so that the team can then focus on building upon and expanding this stable beta. Furthermore, the developers believe that DayZ has now reached a status where all core elements are present. With the beta, DayZ will reach version 1.0 by the end of the year.
DayZ should no longer be a construction site: Many years of work have gone into DayZ. Years that brought about many changes:
- In 2012, DayZ was released as a mod for Arma 2
- In 2013, the early access phase of the standalone version of DayZ began
- In 2014, the entire engine was overhauled
- Also in 2014, DayZ creator Dean Hall left Bohemia Interactive
- At the beginning of 2018, the team also had to say goodbye to Hall’s successor Brian Hicks
- DayZ was released in the game preview program for Xbox One in 2018
The team now wants to show that despite all these issues, DayZ will become the game that fans have been wishing for for years. To do this, the title must first be brought to a state where constant bug fixes due to new content are not necessary.
No New Content for DayZ in the Near Future
A final update before the content stop: Bohemia Interactive has released a final experimental update before the beta with version 0.63, which brings new content. According to the team, these will not all function the same, but will be revised during the now starting stabilization phase. These changes include:
- Important engine adjustments
- Improvements in gameplay and network performance
- Introduction of base building
- Improved vehicles
- Optimized AI for infected and animals
- Major map overhaul to make Chernarus more beautiful and detailed
- Ability to run personal servers
- Modding support
Fans Remain Skeptical: Fans of DayZ are disturbed by this announcement. Many believe that the game is still far from beta or even release.
Shuff writes on Steam: “I returned to this game yesterday for an hour and it is far from release… “
Myyrä says: “Holy hell, is it finally happening? I mean, it’s been 5 years of disappointment.”
