Developers from Bioware, Capcom, and Blizzard are working on Dauntless, an online action RPG strongly inspired by Monster Hunter.
Anyone who knows Monster Hunter knows that it is not an easy game. Many mechanics are overly complicated, which makes it difficult for beginners and casual gamers to get into the series. However, Dauntless aims to take the same game principle and make it significantly more accessible. In Dauntless, you live in the so-called Shattered Worlds, fragments of a destroyed planet where the survivors have retreated. However, dangerous monsters, the Behemoths, threaten the last safe places.
Unique Boss Fights
Therefore, the so-called Slayers set out to destroy the Behemoths. You are one such Slayer, traveling from fragment to fragment to engage in boss fights against the Behemoths. The developers themselves explain that they were heavily inspired by Monster Hunter. Dark Souls and World of Warcraft also served as sources of inspiration. Nonetheless, it is an action RPG that you can play either solo or cooperatively with up to four players. Each boss fight is supposed to feel different, require different tactics, and provide a unique experience.
Monster Hunter Light?
When you defeat a Behemoth, you can find Aetherite as loot. From this, you can create the material Aspect Anchorite. You take this special resource to a blacksmith in the town of Ramsgate, who crafts equipment containing the power of the Behemoth from which you obtained the Aetherite. During the battles, it is also possible to target specific body zones, which grants you special trophies that allow you to further improve your weapons and armor.
Dauntless sounds very interesting and maybe the online game will succeed in packaging the Monster Hunter principle in an accessible way as an action RPG. In the coming year, in 2017, a beta is set to start, for which you can already register on the official website.
