In Dauntless, you control your hero however you want – mouse or controller

Dauntless seems to be an interesting cooperative action RPG that somewhat resembles the “Dark Souls” series. The developers have now revealed a bit more about the game.

If you enjoy playing with a controller, you can do so with Dauntless. Apparently, it is even possible to play with an arcade controller, as a new video of the game shows. However, it is also possible to use a mouse and keyboard.

You will be able to fight the Behemoths in the game in the way that suits you best.

Many things are still in flux

The developers have also commented on the free-to-play model, as it has apparently raised some questions from the community. The fact is that many things are still in flux, including aspects related to the Founder’s Packs. This also applies to the timelines of the testing phases.

Thus, the start of the Founder’s Alpha depends on how the technical alpha goes. Accordingly, this can also affect the start of the Closed Beta and the Open Beta. The Closed Beta is currently planned for the third quarter, the Open Beta for the fourth quarter.

Free-to-play simply brings in more players

Moreover, there is an interesting statement about the free-to-play model. The team wrestled with this payment model for almost a year, as they were dissatisfied with how other games handle free-to-play. However, free-to-play does bring a significant advantage: it allows for far more players, and Dauntless is a game meant to be experienced together with friends.

Furthermore, each player has the power to decide whether to spend money and how much that should be. The developers want players to feel that the team has truly earned the money they receive.

Whether Dauntless will officially launch this year depends on how the testing phases go.
