What will happen to the Trials of Osiris in Destiny 2? Dataminers show: The Trials of the Nine are coming.
Update: You can find all the information about the Trials of the Nine here.
Spoiler Warning! Read on at your own risk!
Dataminers have dug deep into the game files of the Destiny 2 beta on PC and have found tons of audio files whose content significantly exceeds the scope of the beta. Some of these audio files provide explicit clues about the new mode Trials of the Nine.
The Trials of Osiris become the Trials of the Nine
The Trials of Osiris were the pinnacle of the Crucible in Destiny 1. Only those who managed to fill a ticket with 9 wins without a loss were entitled to a trip to the Lighthouse – a social space on Mercury specially set up for the best of the best.
The Trials of Osiris were the toughest PvP content in Destiny 1. Those who succeeded could score great loot at the Lighthouse.

Why the Trials are being renamed and what role the Nine are playing is unknown. The Nine are a mysterious group considered the rulers of the Jovians, the worlds beyond the asteroid belt. They are seen as the firstborn Awoken. So far, we have only interacted with one agent of the Nine – Xûr, who sells us exotic gear every week in Destiny 1.
Audio files reveal details about game modes of the Trials of the Nine
The audio files have revealed two essential things:
- The battles will now be commented on by a woman with a creepy voice, informing players about the use of super abilities and which subclasses they have.
- Terms like Sunbreaker, Nightstalker, and Stormcaller are mentioned, another indication that the TTK subclasses are returning.
Additionally, the use of the terms “defuse” and “it’s armed” are interesting. These terms hint at the Countdown mode, a new mode that was already tested in the beta.

The statement “your side is out of lives” suggests the Survival mode, which can also be played for the first time in Destiny 2. However, it could also mean a complete team wipe during the Countdown mode.
Also interesting is the announcement “objective captured”, which does not point to either of the two modes, but could indicate the return of the extension from the Trials of Osiris, where a capture point on the map had to be taken to decide the match.

What does this mean concretely? One mode? Two modes? Changing modes? We will only find out when the Trials actually return. Also, it is unclear whose mysterious female voice it is.
Additionally, it is still unknown how matchmaking or the structure of the tickets (if there will even be any) will change.
Note: These are not official information. They come from data mining.
What is officially known, however, is the start time of the Trials in Destiny 2: On September 15 at 7:00 PM German time, it begins!
