The Chinese sandbox MMO Dark and Light has been postponed again. Summer is now the earliest time for an Early Access.
Originally, the Early Access of the survival MMO Dark and Light was scheduled for autumn 2016, in November 2016 it was then said, “Yes, that will be later.”
In December 2016, the message came that Early Access should start in 2017, with a full release in the fourth quarter of 2017. At that time, it was expected that Dark and Light could go into Early Access early in 2017.
On Facebook, it was stated: There will be no EA for Dark and Light in Q1. This was communicated misleadingly.

On the Chinese website for Dark and Light, the message came: It is regrettable to announce another postponement. Players should expect a “beta” for Dark and Light in summer.
This would then be Q3 2017. It seems questionable whether a full release will happen this year.
Dark and Light’s Complicated History
Dark and Light appeared out of nowhere a few months ago. The name and brand “Dark and Light” originate from a canceled Western MMORPG. The new game from China seems to be much more oriented towards the dino hit ARK: Survival Evolved.
There was a longer story that the Chinese developers Snail Games bought shares in Studio Wildcard, the company behind ARK, when they were in legal trouble. Since then, Snail Games has been developing some games with the ARK license for the Asian and Western markets. We have discussed this in a longer article.
ARK Survival Evolved: Does the studio belong to the Chinese? Have they cloned ARK?
Fans of Dark and Light should therefore expect less of an “MMORPG,” but more of a survival MMO with significant fantasy elements. While ARK: Survival Evolved leans towards science fiction and dinosaurs, Dark and Light will feature magic and dragons.
But until we really see more than concept art and a few videos, Dark and Light remains a mystery box. Probably at least until summer.
