Dark and Darker has announced another playtest for 2023, after the last one already had over 100,000 concurrent players on Steam.
When is the next playtest? Dark and Darker announced on Twitter that there will be another playtest in 2023. It will run from April 14 to April 19.
What kind of game is this? Dark And Darker is a dungeon crawler with PvP elements, developed by the indie studio Ironmace and is set to be released on Steam.
The gameplay loop of the game is based on fighting with other players on a map for loot. The game style is reminiscent of extraction shooters like Escape from Tarkov – but without shooting.
Instead of firearms and modern warfare, Dark and Darker focuses on a medieval fantasy setting. Besides magic and sorcery, you can use swords and shields to withstand the dangers lurking in the dark. Additionally, there are ranged weapons like a crossbow. However, you won’t find an assault rifle in this indie title.
A fundamental aspect of Dark and Darker is PvP. It is advisable to work in a team of up to three players to defeat other players.
The gaming experience is harsh and punishing. If you fall victim to death in an ongoing round, you lose your loot. This is to be avoided.

How successful was the most recent playtest? On February 16, the most recent playtest of Dark and Darker ended. It was a resounding success. According to Ironmace, nearly 2 million players participated in the playtest (via Twitter).
On Steam, Dark and Darker reached an average of 54,619 players in the last 30 days (as of February 25, 2023). The peak number of concurrent players during this period was 108,000 players (via SteamCharts).
