There is a quirky situation surrounding the German YouTuber Gurkensohn. Apparently, he has sold his channels. The new owner, a “success coach,” uploaded strange videos on his channel. The German Twitch streamer Tanzverbot is dealing with the situation and cannot believe what he hears.
This is the situation?
- Gurkensohn is a German YouTuber with about 330,000 subscribers on YouTube. The Twitch streamer MontanaBlack once said that he made Gurkensohn famous through his reactions to him.
- But suddenly Gurkensohn was no longer visible on his channels, instead strange and very bad videos appeared, in which a person apparently pretended to be Gurkensohn while telling some rubbish with an AI voice (via youtube).
- In the meantime, the situation has been clarified: Another influencer, “success coach,” Dominik Greger, has taken over Gurkensohn’s accounts; it is said that the YouTuber himself suffers from depression.
Influencer takes over Gurkensohn’s channel, uploads very bad AI videos there
This is what Greger says: In a statement that he uploaded on Gurkensohn’s channel (via youtube), Dominik Greger explains how the situation came about:
- He has been a fan of Gurkensohn for a long time and is friends with him.
- Gurkensohn contacted him, he needed financial support while he wanted to undergo a fitness transformation. He needed enough money for food and housing while he focused fully on his training.
- Greger entered into a partnership with Gurkensohn, financially supported him with about €20,000 to €40,000, and helped him with the business part of the venture. But when Gurkensohn was no longer doing well mentally, Greger took over his channels.
- He tried to revive the channels with AI videos, but received a lot of hate for it and now wanted to explain himself.
Greger says he could have sold the channels for a lot of money, but he does not want to destroy Gurkensohn’s life’s work.
“The account has no value without Gurkensohn”
This is how Tanzverbot comments on the situation: The German Twitch streamer Tanzverbot reacted with increasing disbelief to the video. He anyway does not have a high opinion of such “success coaches” who lure people into groups and promise them a lot of money.
Especially one contradiction caught his attention (via youtube):
- Greger repeatedly emphasizes that he means well with Gurkensohn and helps him out of sympathy
- at the same time, however, Greger is also pursuing business interests, securing 30% of the revenues and then immediately taking over the channels
Especially Greger’s statement that he could have sold Gurkensohn’s channels for €60,000 to €80,000 does not sit right with Tanzverbot:
“Hey thanks for not selling the account that you took over. Nobody would pay that money for it. The account has no value without Gurkensohn. What nonsense. The reach has no value without him.”
When Greger later mentions that Gurkensohn received a lot of “hate” from the community for the AI videos, Tanzverbot angrily interrupts again:
“It’s not your community. You have no claim to it. You caused a video on such a channel to have such a [bad] rating. You caused many people to unsubscribe because Gurkensohn was no longer behind it. You are ruining his life’s work.”
How do others react? Even under Greger’s video on Gurkensohn’s channel, it is clear that sympathies are clearly divided. Nobody can understand that someone else takes over the channel. The people reject the situation and clearly side with Tanzverbot.
Tanzverbot is currently significantly more active on Twitch than in previous months. Apparently a side effect of his financial situation:
Twitch streamer Tanzverbot says he is broke: bought shirts for 400 euros that don’t even fit him
