Cyberpunk 2077 is working on a major DLC. But where are the promised patches? And is multiplayer still coming?
How is the development of Cyberpunk 2077 actually going? Quite well, one might think, if one looks at the latest Steam reviews. However, many fans are still waiting for the big upgrade for the next-gen consoles. Now the developers have revealed how the development is shifting.
What has been decided? In the document on “Q3 Earnings” from CD Projekt, there was a page about how priorities are distributed at the developer. A graphic shows which projects are being worked on, where developers are being pulled from, and where new ones are being called in.
The graphic clearly shows that the team around Cyberpunk 2077 is getting smaller and that resources are being shifted instead.
Anyone who thinks that support for Cyberpunk 2077 is gradually being phased out is mistaken. Because the developers who were in the category “Support for Cyberpunk 2077 + next-gen version” have been nearly completely shifted to the project “CP Expansion” – that is, “Expansion for Cyberpunk”.
What the expansion could be about is still completely unclear. Story details do not exist so far, neither as a leak nor as a well-founded suspicion. However, it should be easy to expand the game world a little to tell one or two new stories.
Big “Next-Gen Patch” still pending: Many players on Xbox One and PlayStation 5 are still waiting for a major performance update. Although many bugs have already been fixed, Cyberpunk 2077 still needs to be optimized for Xbox One and PlayStation 5. Despite the pullback of the developers, the schedule still seems to plan for the first quarter of 2022. The end of the wait is thus approaching soon.
Cyberpunk 2077 is experiencing a resurgence: Basically, things around Cyberpunk 2077 seem to be looking very good right now. The “Autumn Sale” on Steam led to many sales of the game and made the game a real bestseller again months after release. The popularity of Cyberpunk 2077 also seems to be rising, as there were up to 5,500 positive reviews during the sale – and this sometimes in a single day.
Apparently, the many teething problems of Cyberpunk 2077 have now been resolved. There are still a few bugs and issues, but a large part of the game world is now convincing and provides an engaging experience – at least on PC.
What about multiplayer? Earlier during the development of Cyberpunk 2077, hints about a multiplayer mode were frequently dropped and at least the possibility was considered. However, these plans now seem to have been completely abandoned. Months before release, there was no more talk of any possible multiplayer mode, and it seems that we have to accept that there will probably not be a multiplayer mode for Cyberpunk 2077.
But with that, CD Projekt RED can perhaps focus on what they are already good at: Great single-player stories in a cool world.
Are you interested in expansions and DLCs for Cyberpunk 2077? Or have you already “completed” Night City and don’t want to spend any more time there?
