In the new RPG Cyberpunk 2077, there will be no shame and bodies will be presented in full nudity. CD Projekt Red has a good literary reason for this.
In the demo still pixelated: At E3, some journalists were able to play a demo version of Cyberpunk 2077. Here, in the character creation, naked models of men and women were already visible. However, the genitals of the player avatars were pixelated with a white box. This caused giggles, reports the US site Polygon.
Pixelated in the demo so that not everything revolves around genitals
In the game but no longer: In the finished game, these shame boxes will probably no longer exist, but the genitals will be recognizable. For the demo, however, CD Projekt Red did not want to be accused of using cheap effects to attract public attention. Otherwise, the focus would have quickly shifted to the genitals in Cyberpunk 2077, the developers feared.
Nudity important for Cyberpunk 2077: In the game, naked people will be shown because it emphasizes an important idea of the cyberpunk genre: In cyberpunk, humans modify their bodies through implants. This violates the inviolability of the body and makes the body something that can be altered, which is up for debate.
The Body as a Theme
Theme of the Game: A central idea of Cyberpunk 2077 is to confront the player with what it means to alter the human body with the help of technology. In one quest, players will encounter a woman who has been kidnapped. The kidnappers are not after ransom, but want to dismember the woman to obtain her high-quality implants. They plan to sell them on the black market.
Nudity is important: Nudity is important to make the theme clear. Because people change their bodies, it is no longer sacred but profane. People lose their relationship with their bodies, with their flesh. “Where are the boundaries between ‘sacred’ and ‘profane’ when you can change the body in a way that turns a person into another person?” is a central question of the cyberpunk genre. To underscore and explore these themes, nudity is necessary.
