To launch Cyberpunk 2077, the developers are warning the streamers of the game. A song could cause big problems. The solution should be implemented soon.
What is the problem? Cyberpunk 2077 was released on the night of December 10, 2020, and immediately took over streams on platforms like Twitch.tv. However, for some streamers, broadcasting the new game may now result in issues.
In a tweet, the Cyberpunk team explains that there is a song that one should definitely mute in their streams. They specify exactly the moment when the song plays so that this problem can be avoided.
“We just noticed that there is a song in the game that could lead to a DMCA strike on your channel. Even if the option ‘Mute copyrighted music’ is used while playing. While we are working on a solution, you should be aware that the sound should be off during the first two Braindance sequences. Sorry!”
This is behind the option
Why is this? As reported by DotEsports.com, Cyberpunk 2077 has various features meant to help streamers. Among them is an option to censor explicit material and a setting to mute copyrighted music.
The avoidance of protected music is Cyberpunk’s solution to the major ‘Twitch ban crisis’. This aims to replace protected music with other tracks. Unfortunately, this does not work as intended.
If protected music titles are played during one’s livestream on TwitchTV, streamers receive “strikes”. These are essentially warnings. If enough warnings are accumulated, the channel will be banned.
Since May 2020, the music industry has reportedly sent “thousands of complaints per month for copyright violations” according to Twitch. As a result, operators must delete clips and videos.
For game developers, bans on TwitchTV are a major issue. They try to adjust their games so that streamers can share them with their live audiences without issues. A problem like the aforementioned song in Cyberpunk 2077 also occurred with Fortnite.
