CD Projekt Red has Cyberpunk 2077 postponed by several months. And the developers also commented on the multiplayer mode – those who want to play with friends will have to wait even longer.
When is the Cyberpunk 2077 release? As CD Projekt Red announced, the original release date of April 16 cannot be met. Instead, the game is postponed to September 17. This way, the team has more time to fix bugs and further improve the overall gaming experience.
In a Q&A Session, the developers provided further insight into the decision. The announced multiplayer was also discussed: Players will have to wait even longer for the multiplayer component.
Cyberpunk Multiplayer is its own AAA project and needs time
When will the multiplayer come? In the Q&A Session, Michał Nowakowski from CD Projekt Red explained that the multiplayer will probably not be released in 2021.
Given the Cyberpunk release in September 2020 and the events that will follow, a release date in 2021 is unlikely. Thus, the multiplayer will probably not appear until 2022 at the earliest.
How extensive will the multiplayer be? Michał Nowakowski explained in the same session that the multiplayer mode is the second AAA release that the developers are currently working on.
The AAA project, which CEO Adam Kiciński refers to as “Cyberpunk Multiplayer,” is expected to be correspondingly extensive. The developers have previously spoken of an “innovative project.”
This will be delayed: Basically, the entire release plan for Cyberpunk 2077 is changing. The developers also stated that the coming months will be marked by overtime.
Hands-on events that were originally planned for March will now also be postponed. However, the focus on the current console generation remains unchanged, even though the new release is closer to the next generation.
