The action RPG Cyberpunk 2077 has been postponed again. Apparently, this makes some fans so angry that they send death threats to the team.
What exactly happened? On yesterday, October 28, the developer studio CD Projekt Red had to announce a further postponement of the release date of Cyberpunk 2077. The action RPG will now be released on December 10 for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Stadia.
Part of the community has shown understanding for the situation, but part has not.
There was a lot of criticism directed at CD Projekt Red. Among other things, because it was recently said that the team would have to go through a crunch time to meet the release date of November 19. This had previously been ruled out.
Now there is the crunch, and the date could still not be kept.
How severe was this criticism? Andrzej Zawadzki, lead game designer of Cyberpunk 2077, spoke up a few hours after the announcement of the release postponement on Twitter.
He explains that he understands the anger and disappointment of some in the community. He even understands that some want to vent their frustration publicly and want to write it off their chest. Nevertheless, it is absolutely unacceptable to send death threats to the developers.
Why are there death threats? Under the guise of anonymity, it seems easy for some to cross the line. Death threats are not uncommon on the internet.
Some seem completely indifferent to how those who receive such threats feel. As Andrzej Zawadzki explains: “We are human beings, just like you.”.
There is sometimes a rough tone on the internet. For some, this is normal and “part of it”. People also seem entirely indifferent to whom exactly they are threatening with death.
Developers were completely unaware of the postponement
According to Andrzej Zawadzki, developers receive death threats, even though, according to industry insider and game journalist Jason Schreier, they supposedly knew nothing about the situation until the announcement of the release postponement of Cyberpunk 2077. They were caught off guard just like the players.
So people are being threatened with death who are just doing their jobs and had no idea that their work had been postponed again.
