Developer CD Projekt Red has once again confirmed the delay of Cyberpunk 2077. It is only to be delayed by 21 days and will not be released as planned in November.
When will Cyberpunk 2077 be released now? According to the developers, Cyberpunk 2077 will now be released on December 10. This is a delay of 21 days.
This is now the 3rd delay of the release date. In early 2020, it was delayed to mid-September, followed by the delay to mid-November. Now it will take even longer.
COVID-19 crisis to blame for the delay
This is what the developers are saying: CD Projekt Red states the biggest challenge is that they need to test Cyberpunk 2077 in 9 different versions. This includes the new consoles PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. But also Google Stadia, PC, and the old consoles have test versions.
All of this has to be done from home office and therefore leads to further delays. The developers write: “It may sound strange when someone says that 21 days can make a difference in such a large and complex game, but it really can.”
The developers recently announced that the game has achieved “Gold Status.” This means it is finished and the content is complete. Nevertheless, there is now a delay.
CD Projekt Red states: “But this does not mean that we will stop working on it and enhancing its quality.” The time period for these improvements cannot be estimated, say the developers.
First reactions to the delay
The responses are mixed. There is much understanding for this delay. After all, it is not the only game that has been delayed during the COVID-19 period, recently for example the new WoW expansion Shadowlands.
Others are disappointed, as they had taken time off to play during the release period.
I understand the decision but… a lot of us I’m sure asked for a time off on our jobs to be able to play this game since you guys have said no more delays was going to happen. I have a lot on my mind with this decision.

A tweet from Cyberpunk 2077 also stands out. Yesterday they were asked if the game will actually be released in November. They wrote that they issue a “full confirmation” of that. Now, one day later, it looks very different.

However, there are also numerous positive comments. For example, it is said: “All good, take your time:”
All good, take your time.

Cyberpunk subreddit flooded and blocked
This is what it looks like on reddit: The delay is causing a stir on reddit. The subreddit for Cyberpunk 2077 states that they have temporarily blocked creating threads. The reason is that too much spam is being posted around the delay.
The moderators are currently not allowing any more images and every text post is being reviewed. They urge players to check if their topic has already been mentioned in another thread.
In the gaming subreddit, however, the thread about the delay has directly reached number 1. The tone is somewhat more moderate here, but discussions are still lively.
While it was initially expected to release in April, one now has to wait even longer. However, the delay is not too long, and one can look forward to the action RPG during the Christmas season. However, those hoping for the multiplayer part will have to wait longer. It is announced, but is to follow later.
In early October, Cyberpunk 2077 made headlines with reports about overtime to ensure that the game was completed on time. The additional hours were not sufficient after all.
