A user has desperately turned to the community. His PC wouldn’t turn on after playing a round of Cyberpunk 2077. Troubleshooting is a bit more complicated than expected.
Having problems with your own PC is always annoying. Some people can be really desperate, especially when the computer suddenly refuses to start. That could mean high repair costs or something similar.
A user has now desperately turned to reddit because his PC wouldn’t start after playing the popular game Cyberpunk 2077. Again, the fear is that he might have wasted many hundreds of euros on a game.
Can a game really destroy a computer? Many doubt it
What exactly happened? A user published an extensive post on reddit. He mentioned that he had played the game Cyberpunk 2077 without a second thought and that’s when the problems started. He writes on reddit.com:
I also ran Cyberpunk this morning on high settings and it was perfect, I was so excited to play it again today after a session of Sea of Thieves with my friend, but once I loaded past the Redengine splash screen, my PC just shut everything off.
After that, he started troubleshooting, with the active support of the community. Some users immediately said it couldn’t be the game that made his PC stop starting. Because “it is extremely unlikely to impossible that Cyberpunk broke your PC.” It’s more likely that there was already something wrong with the gaming PC from the beginning and the game only triggered the issue (via reddit.com).
Finally, a few users mentioned that an abrupt shutdown of the system and no further response could only indicate a faulty power supply or a broken power supply unit. However, there are other signs that can show you when the graphics card is about to fail. That was certainly not the case here.
How did he eventually solve the problem? The problems were resolved after the thread starter connected a new power supply to his PC. Suddenly, the computer started, but it got stuck in a boot loop.
In a further step, he had to reset the BIOS and reinstall Windows. After that, the gaming PC started up again without any issues, and he could also launch various games again.
It could have damaged the PC much more
In hindsight, the user was lucky. Because the broken power supply could have ruined much more hardware. Often, a faulty power supply can also damage other components like the graphics card, processor, or motherboard. In the worst case, the user would have then needed to invest a large sum to replace the damaged parts.
How annoying this can be was recently shown by another user: The gamer installed a new power supply in his computer and used old cables. However, that almost cost him many thousands of euros. You can read the whole story here on MeinMMO:
