Cyberpunk 2077 is now already four years old. After a more than unfortunate start, the developers put in a lot of extra effort into the game and improved it. Now their work is paying off, and they can celebrate a success.
How has Cyberpunk 2077 fared? The role-playing game from CD Projekt Red has truly had a rough journey. It originally launched in December 2020 for PC and consoles. Especially on the weaker console variants, the game was in a disastrous state.
Not only did players have to cope with significantly reduced graphics compared to the PC version, but there were also numerous bugs – the RPG simply felt unfinished. This led to great outrage in the community and a loss of prestige for the development studio, which is very renowned due to the Witcher series.
Over the past years, however, they worked hard not only to repair the game but also to expand it. With update 2.0 at the latest, entire systems, such as the skill system, were revised. The DLC Phantom Liberty was a successful expansion. And recently, the game also received updates.
All of this has led to players now looking at Cyberpunk 2077 differently. On Steam, this is reflected in concrete numbers.

What is the status of Cyberpunk today? If you look at the Steam page of the game today, there is nothing left of the once negative attitude among players. As of January 23, 2025, Cyberpunk has received the status “Extremely Positive” for recent reviews.
Specifically, this means: 95% of the reviews from the last 30 days are positive. For the entire time since release, Cyberpunk 2077 still achieves a “Very Positive” rating – here, 84% of players have given it a thumbs up.
One can see that especially those who have given the current version of the game a chance are extremely satisfied with it.
What do the developers say about it? The good rating has certainly not gone unnoticed by the developers. Quest designer Paweł Sasko can hardly believe it and expresses his happiness in a post on x.com:
I never dreamed this would be possible. Over 4 years after its release, Cyberpunk 2077 has reached “Extremely Positive” on Steam. I am so grateful for your passion, memes, videos, reviews, articles, fan art, cosplay, and mods. Much love, my Chooms!

The narrative director of Witcher 4, Philipp Weber, also worked as a quest designer on Cyberpunk, and he joins the thanks to the community:
After all this time, I’m so glad we finally got the chance to realize our vision, and I am so grateful for the team that supports it to this day, as well as for the fans who never gave up. Takemura would be proud!

The story of Cyberpunk 2077 is one of ups and downs. Now the developers have managed to gain the overwhelming recognition of the players. Are you among those who have changed their opinion about the game? Feel free to let us know in the comments. MyMMO author Johanna Heuck is particularly fascinated by one character: Judy in Cyberpunk 2077 breaks my heart – and I want more of it
