In the inhospitable wasteland of Fallout 76, the game death lurks around every corner waiting for unsuspecting players. Even during a relaxing hot tub bath, one’s final hour can suddenly strike, as one player has just impressively demonstrated.
This is what happened: In Fallout 76, players can currently find a camp that looks like a really fancy property. Quite inviting – after all, you wouldn’t necessarily expect that in the brutal wasteland of the survival games.
The property offers a reading nook, a nicely furnished kitchen, a TV room in the attic, and even a bathroom with large cat pictures hanging on the walls. Nothing terrible can happen in a place like that! Or?
The answer is, of course: Yes. For the property built by player “@vault101manguy” also hosts a real death trap. A bubbling, steaming hot tub invites players to linger.
But once you sit in it, you won’t get back up: As soon as you relax in the water a bit, the familiar sound of radiation starts. Then it’s all over. You can see how that looked in the video here:
The death hot tub – the latest creation of a skilled trap maker
This is why players fall over in the hot tub: Using generators and radiation emitters, @vault101manguy has turned the hot tub into a trap that deals so much radiation damage to players that they cannot escape anymore. A sign above the pool even warns of the radiation, but it is likely often ignored.
In an interview with Kotaku, the trap maker said that already several dozen players have fallen victim to his trap. Every so often he receives surprised but positive feedback from victims. On YouTube, his video mainly gets praise for the clever construction. In the Fallout 76 subreddit, there is also praise: “I can’t even be angry about it. It’s way too clever. The radiation warning sign above the hot tub seals the deal,” says one user (via reddit).
Who is this player? @vault101manguy is no stranger when it comes to such traps. For example, he made headlines years ago with a quite cleverly constructed maze. This maze lured players with prizes but unleashed a tamed deathclaw on them once the door was locked.
Once the victims were locked inside, the trap maker could relax and watch the whole thing from above. Even outside of the hot tub and the maze, he continuously showcased various traps and contraptions he had created in Fallout 76 on YouTube.
During E3, a new update for Fallout 76 was introduced. While it doesn’t include standard killer hot tubs, it should still be exciting. You can find everything about the “Steel Reign” update for Fallout 76 here.
