The 28-year-old Swede Jesper “JW” Wecksel is a professional player in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO). He was caught by a bug during the worst possible time, a bug that snipers fear in CS:GO.
This was the situation:
- The two CS:GO teams EYEBALLERS and Los Kogutos faced each other on the map Overpass. The match was part of an online tournament for $50,000.
- The game was on a knife’s edge; JW’s opponents, Los Kogutos, were leading 15-14.
- The sniper JW positioned himself skillfully and was lying in wait for a kill. The 28-year-old AWP player is known for his aggressive playstyle in CS:GO. In his career, he has already earned nearly $920,000 in prize money.
Silencer glitches through the wall, revealing the shooter’s location
What kind of bug was that? JW used a silencer on the M4A1-S weapon: A known bug can cause the weapon’s silencer to protrude through a wall, making it visible.
Exactly this happened to poor JW in the 30th round: He had positioned himself at a corner so that he could get a kill or even multiple kills right at the start of the match. However, the treacherous silencer protruded through the map, allowing the opponents to spot him early and take him out of the game effortlessly.
Without JW and thus outnumbered, the EYEBALLERS lost the decisive match and consequently the first of the 3 rounds, ultimately losing the encounter against Los Kogutos 1-2.
What makes this so tragic? This silencer bug has been in the game for a long time and has repeatedly decided matches in CS:GO e-sports.
On reddit, the bug is being discussed, and it is criticized that Valve has not managed to fix the bug in “a billion years.” There is “no excuse” for that, even if the bug seems difficult to replicate and only occurs relatively rarely. When it does occur – especially in such an important moment as this – it is all the more frustrating.
