Counter-Strike: Global Offensive can now be downloaded for free on Steam. If you have purchased it, you are a Prime member. There is also the new BR mode “Danger Zone.”
Anyone who has ever wanted to play Counter-Strike but didn’t have the money can now get the latest installment, Global Offensive, for free on Steam. The game is now Free-2-Play and also features a new mode called Danger Zone. This is Battle Royale in Counter-Strike style.
What’s new in the F2P version of CS:GO?
The change from a paid model to a free version is simple to explain. The base game is now completely free. Since September, there has already been a free version, but it only allowed players to compete against bots.
Players gain access to all game modes, matchmaking, and more.
Players who have already purchased CS:GO will become Prime members
In every game mode of CS:GO, players are now separated into two groups. Prime and Non-Prime. If you purchased Counter-Strike: Global Offensive before it became F2P, you are automatically a Prime member.
What are the benefits of Prime members? If you have Prime status, you will join games with other Prime members. Prime members have access to exclusive souvenir items, item drops, and weapon crates.
Can you still become a Prime member? Yes. You have the option to purchase Prime status ($15). Then you will also qualify for the benefits mentioned.
What is included in Danger Zone for CS:GO?
The battle royale mode in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is not nearly as large as PUBG or Fortnite.
How large are the groups? There are single, duo, and trio queues. You can register with up to a total of 3 players in a group.
How many players can fit? In the single mode, there are 16 players, while duo and trio have 18 players.
Have weapons been modified? Valve says that damage and weapon behavior should be just like in “normal” CS:GO. So you don’t have to relearn shooting.
How long does a match last? A round of Danger Zone should last about 10 minutes.
How does a match proceed? You start with just a knife. However, there are supply drones that can transport weapons and equipment to your position. You can order the weapons through a tablet that you carry with you from the start. The tablet can be upgraded; initially, there is only a limited purchase menu. It can also display the positions of opponents.
To collect money for weapons, you can gather a bit from the environment or bring hostages to rescue points.
What does the map look like? There is currently only one map called Blacksite. Intermittently, airstrikes occur on the map, which you should avoid. Each player chooses where they will land at the start.
