The shooter Counterstrike: Global Offensive (Steam) is one of the biggest e-sport titles in the world. Canadian Matthew “Sadokist” Trivett (33) has been commentating CS:GO tournaments for ESL since 2014. But after a night in Rio de Janeiro, where he reportedly drank too much, that seems to be over: According to reports, Sadokist rampaged in the hotel lobby, smashed a television, and yelled at one of his bosses.
This was the situation that became publicly known:
- The Canadian Matthew “Sadokits” Trivett was supposed to cast the IEM Rio tournament.
- But on November 6, ESL suddenly announced that there had been an “incident involving Sadokist” the night before. As a result of the incident, Sadokist “resigned” as caster for the remainder of the tournament and would be replaced.
- They had no further comment.
So something clearly went wrong that night in Brazil. But what exactly?
Caster got drunk, smashed television, yelled at one of his bosses
What happened there? The CS:GO site Dust2.us is now reporting on the evening of November 5, which apparently cost the caster his career. The site cites witnesses.
It is said that the caster drank heavily at a bar that night and then returned to the hotel, where ESL housed all players, coaches, and staff.
At the hotel, Sadokist got into an argument with a group of people who were filming promotional material for Twitch streamer Gaules and the Brazilian team FURIA. During the argument, the caster went from “tipsy” to “violent” and smashed a television.
Among those who witnessed the incident was an important ESL manager: Vice President Product Development, Michael “Carmac” Blicharz. He tried to calm Sadokist down. But the caster would not be contained and ultimately engaged in a shouting match with the manager until the police arrived.
As the site reports, ESL immediately fired Sadokist, informed the staff about Sadokist’s termination, and booked him a flight home.
There is no statement from Sadokist on this, reports the site PC Gamer. He is also silent on social media. ESL simply repeats the statement about the “incident” and does not provide further details.
One can assume that the man will not find work again anytime soon.
Who is Sadokist? Sadokist cast his first tournament in June 2014. Over the past 8 years, he has built a reputation as one of the top casters in CS:GO.
However, there was also a major controversy surrounding him in 2018. During a cast, he used a racial slur and told someone from the community to take their own life.
