Amazon’s Crucible launched on May 21 via Steam with alarmingly low interest. Current peaks do not reach even 1,000 players anymore. Amazon is aware of this and is now planning to save their shooter.
What’s happening: Amazon’s hero shooter Crucible had a poor launch on May 21, and player interest has since dropped significantly. Currently, according to Steamcharts, the peak does not even reach 1,000 players concurrently, and the user reviews on Steam are a meager 44%.
Crucible focuses on a game mode
What Amazon is planning: The developers at Relentless Studios and Amazon Games have listened to player feedback and are implementing initial measures. Crucible is currently in pre-season and will not start season 1 until everyone is satisfied.
Thus, two out of a total of three game modes will be temporarily removed. Amazon is focusing on the popular “Heart of the Swarms” mode and wants to improve it further.
The other two modes “Harvesting Machines Command” and “Alpha Hunter” will be temporarily removed from the game.
Amazon plans a two-phase improvement and has made a roadmap via Trello available online.
What happens in Phase 1: In the first phase, the developers aim to optimize the core systems of Heart of the Swarms. But features requested by players are also on the agenda:
- A voice chat
- A surrender option
- A system to deal with AFK players who ruin matches
- An extended ping system
- Possibly a type of mini-map
- New tutorial videos
Amazon has not yet provided a detailed list of the upcoming changes. However, these 6 points enjoy top priority along with the optimization of the “Heart of the Swarms” mode according to the developers.
What happens in Phase 2: The second phase aims to enhance Crucible by introducing further systems and changes for a better player experience. Here, Amazon relies on player feedback. So far, the following improvements are planned:
- A custom map for Heart of the Swarms
- Improvements to the creatures in the world
- Support for private games
- Enhanced social features
- Updated game menu
- Twitch drops
- Revised respawn system
According to the developers, players can expect regular updates with bug fixes and improvements. They also want to keep the community updated through developer updates, where they discuss feedback and their thoughts on it. Whether this can save the hero shooter will have to be seen.
