Amazon has released its new shooter Crucible on Wednesday evening. The PC shooter launched on Steam with some technical problems. Even on Twitch, Crucible is not making a significant impact, although Amazon booked airtime with some of the platform’s biggest streamers.
This is how the launch of Crucible went: The new free shooter from Amazon was actually supposed to launch on Wednesday, May 20, at 9:00 PM on Steam. However, it didn’t really go smoothly. There were some technical issues at the launch of Crucible. Later, Crucible only went online in the USA, while we in Europe had to wait.
The initial difficulties were reflected in some negative reviews for Crucible on Steam. At the moment, the shooter has a mediocre 43% positive reviews there.
Amazon hires 3 top 12 streamers for Crucible – They played briefly
This is how it was on Twitch: It is normal for a new shooter on Twitch to attract the attention of major streamers. Like every player, streamers are constantly looking for new hot games.
In fact, Crucible attracted the attention of some of the biggest streamers on the platform, but these were streams sponsored by Amazon:
- TimTheTatman (No. 4 on Twitch) was online for 4 hours, averaging 39,325 viewers
- His friend DrLupo (No. 9 on Twitch) was also in Crucible for 4 hours – together with TimTheTatman, he had 12,665 average viewers
- The well-known Fortnite shooter streamer SypherPK (No. 12 on Twitch) streamed for 3 hours with 26,229 average viewers
As reported by Doteports, these 3 streamers were clearly marked as “sponsored” streams. Amazon paid them to check out the game.
These are highlights of the streams: TimTheTatman had some laughs during the character selection tutorial on his stream. He got a bit riled up, assuming that the chat would prompt him to play the somewhat overweight hero Earl. He knew that already and didn’t need to look at the chat, he said. He couldn’t spontaneously turn right anymore.
Outside of the sponsored streams, variety streamer Lirik was also active in Crucible, spending 3 hours in the game with 25,382 viewers.
Lirik also managed to promptly find a bug.
All these big streamers were only in the game for a relatively short time and then left again.
SpyherPK said afterwards that he had a lot of fun with Crucible. Although he was sponsored to play Crucible, he didn’t have to tweet the praise.
He actually had a great time with Crucible.
This is the situation: At the moment, Crucible is far from being a big title on Twitch. Although the shooter is new, it is only in 22nd place for average viewers, even though Amazon invited some big names.
This is far from the huge success of Valorant. That was achieved by Riot Games by offering Valorant only as a closed beta. Those wanting access had to watch a streamer play Valorant. Amazon is taking a more conservative approach.
MeinMMO author Leya Jankowski has already had the opportunity to test Crucible and hold an interview with the developers. She asks whether Crucible can triumph where so many have failed.
After the first hours of Crucible on Steam and Twitch, it can already be sensed that Amazon will need a long breath with the shooter. It is not exactly firing on all cylinders out of the starting blocks.
