- Now it is 2019, and fans are waiting for the beta of the MMORPG

- The release is planned as a soft launch. This means that the developers will bring the game from beta to official launch without much fanfare
- The engine is now also being licensed to other developers, which provides an additional source of income

- For years it has been said that the next year would see a “soft launch”

What does the development of Camelot Unchained look like? Fans of the spiritual successor to Dark Age of Camelot have been waiting a bit longer:
- Shortly before Christmas 2012, Camelot Unchained was announced
- A Kickstarter campaign took place in 2013, raising around 2.2 million dollars for the developers
- Over the years, there have been plenty of adjustments and changes to the game. Among other things, the entire skill system had to be replaced
- In 2018, the developers received a financial boost of 7.5 million dollars
- The MMORPG is currently in beta phase, where participants are battling siege battles. The start of this beta has, however, been postponed repeatedly
- The beta does not take place continuously but rather at specific times
- The game received a new UI
- Even in September 2019, there is still no release date for the game – a statement from January 2018 indicated that the release was planned for 2019, but that is likely no longer feasible
Which game is further along in development? Camelot Unchained has been in development for a longer time, while Crowfall gives the impression of being further along. However, it is hard to say precisely, as one cannot see behind the scenes of development.
Both games, however, are not at a stage where a launch is in the foreseeable future.
A long development time
Why does development take so long? One must consider that relatively small and independent development teams are trying to create gigantic MMOs. This not only requires a lot of time but also consumes a lot of money.
Moreover, unforeseen problems can always arise during game development, such as with the skill system of Camelot Unchained.
Additionally, Camelot Unchained simply has difficulties finding personnel, as noted by Marc Jacobs. All tech companies are fishing from the same pool for skilled professionals.
One should also keep in mind that the developers involve the community in the development process from the beginning. Otherwise, people only hear about titles when they are very far along, and even then, it often takes years for them to be released.
